Personal experience - Dubai customers

In general the customers are not buing the cheapest but better designed and latest there, so a typical profit globally is not typical profit there. ANd these Flag stores are never intended to only sell hardware but more or less advertising and if the store is even almost profitable it is cheap advertising.

@hash: Maybe they're looking to give Emirates a kick

...in tha arse. Dell outsources support practically everywhere but Dubai's Dell support is fairly notoriously bad. By having a store where people can come in, maybe they're setting up somewhere people can come in where Dell support doesn't suck.

Of course, if it's an Emirates franchise...

dell shop

Dell doesnt have good reputed customer service in Dubai as in North America. They outsourced it to Emirates computers which is doing shoddy job and tarnishing the image of Dell. Instead of spending shoddy amount of money to open Apple rival why dont they stick to their strenghts which made them famous in first place - no brick and mortar store, great product and great customer service.
