LOL - what this points out is the 4870 never got close to the 285, let alone the 280 and was merely equivalent to the GTX260 - which the red roosters have for months EMPHATICALLY tried to deny at every turn, lying like rugs the whole time.
Same whine about cost of the GT200 core, when their tiny ati core was backed up by TWO BILLION in losses years in a row.

How great will it be when nVidia goes out of business. Then ATI can finally start making money and we can start paying alot more for worse tech.
My first 3D ASIC was the Mach64 which was made by who? Good thing a little company called 3DFX came along. Oh, and then TNT.... sweet. Innovation is good, right?
sorry to disappoint but cuda will be coming to an end when DX11 comes out at the end of the year, linux support is better than nvidia and so are the drivers, picture quality is far superior as well, the cards are faster than nvidia's and cheaper to, ATI dont degrade image quality for FPS unlike NVIDIA, what more could you ask for, oh thats right nvidia fanboys are not happy until they take it up the @ss, yes you should be used to it with the prices nvidia charge
Isn't Charlie even gonna post here ,comon, you know you want too.I know it's sore ..I read here everyday and i love the humor.great job all..oh i do have an X2 and 1 gig 4870 + others just to help keep um in the game...
30 inch Dell right here!,2x XFX XXX GTX 280,QX 9770,8 Gig patriot DDR3 ,no need for upgrade just yet ,lol, sorry ati fanbois,Lot of open wounds here, throwing salt now...so one reviewer has a new Radeon that is a cherry ,so what?
NVIDIA has better drivers, better support, linux drivers as fast as windows - very stable, faster cards, and CUDA!!!. AMD messed up this ATI thing big time. Their top management is worthless. I still buy their procs though.
This is so funny reading, people who defend their gfx card(s)like its their grandma or mommy.Just enjoy the bloody thing and stop moaning that people dont think its as good as you do.
By the way `plasticman`,show me the new tech in these `new` gfx cards, tweaked clocked, rebranded old tech, get over it.
Got a palit gtx 275 from scan yesterday for £199. I got nothing to complain about so far, its a good card for the price. Fingers crossed it doesn't die on me next time i load up farcry 2
I don't know what some people are on?
Why even care if the card is just a rebranded and slightly modified one?
For me it's all just fine as long as the card is doing what it's intend to do, to give me best performance/price ratio.
Almost all companies in any business are doing this. It would simply cost too much to bring new architecture every sixth months as some of you are believing they can do.
CPU business is a perfect example of rebranded stuff where top tier and budget version share the same spec but with different MHz number.
For me it's all fine if you twonks want to stay with what you got and wait for like two years before you see something new.
Your loss only.
I'm shocked that no one has mentioned Tomshardware's review of GeForce GTX 275.
It's probably the most respected hardware site of all sites.
Oh for Gods sake people. The 4890 and the 275 are simply rehashes of existing top line tech from both camps. You'll find they will both win and lose wars of fps over the next few months. Neither is better, neither is worse. Just pick a goddamned card and shut the hell up. Honestly, this is getting ludicrously tiresome. Just wait for the next DX11 cards and save your ranting till then.
xbit dont compare it directly to the GTX275. its your opinion 4890 beats the GTX285, but even other reviews that place all these cards side by side it clearly DOESNT. you are making the claim because you think that in a few areas the 4890 wins against the 285, that automatically makes it overall faster than the 275, while ignoring the reviews that SPECIFICALLY compare these two competing cards, which all say the nvidia is faster. even if we assume, and agree with you that xbit tests show the 4890 is faster than the 275 (which i dont and it doesnt) then thats still 8 out of ten for the nvidia. woobeehoo
i dont want to link to another site but a lot of them are running this http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/599/1051599/nvidia-hoodwinks-reviewers-mythical-gt275s story, so you cant put it down to Charlie.
see ATI dont play dirty tricks, you know when a site has ATI in the lead it got there because its a good card, not because nvidia put pressure on the site or payed them off or gave them a card that is just for the review sites.
9800GTX+ and 4850 were a similar situation. More or less the same speed, but depending on the game one that was being tested 1 card would be slightly better than the other.
I'm shocked that someone could be bothered to read so many reviews of the same product. Isn't there something better to do with the short time we have on this planet? (says me reading internet news, lol)
this is great! I honestly didn't know children read the inq but reading this heated debate on which is the faster card of two cards with a 1% difference between them. Just. Wow. Very objective,
I think I might be out of line. Not being a gamer and all.
Oh shit, now some noone is going to write and meticulessly explain to me that there is *2*% difference. Didn't think about that. But I just did now. It is important to be specific and not deal in generalities. Generally generals these day are much too grumpy for my taste. No sense of humor. Just blowing things up with their little computers and satellites. It's *so* immature. Oh my. I'm in a glass house.
do i need to list them AGAIN? pc perspective, guru3d, hot hardware, hardware canucks, legit review, bjorn 3d, overclockers club and driver heaven. all give it to the nvidia. you say just anandtech give it to the radeon? good for them. xbit DONT COMPARE the 275 to the 4890, at least not yet ya muppet. the others do. nuff said LOL and please domestic FFS ITS NOT A REBRAND. how hard is that to understand?
You guys/girls make me wanna puke, nvidia rebranding another old tech card with tweaked clocks and their the best since ever...they should be shot, same with ati, slightly modded 4870 and charging an extra £50 for it,your having a giraffe.
I`ve got both camps cards(9800gx2 and hd4870 1gig)and to be honest you cant tell the differnce between 156fps or 180 fps,all these idiots defending a company that only wants your money, idiots
ahh yes the anandtech review. the only different review from the 8 or so i have seen, and pointed to here that not only show the nvidia is faster, say it outright too in their conclusions. you keep falling back on that and telling yourself that sole anand review disqualfies all of the the other 7 i know of that say otherwise conclusively. by anand testing themselves 8/9 reviews give it to the 275. 275FTW :-)
Anandtech has the 4890 thrashing the 275 in 7/8 tests, and that's the best review site on the net, so i don't know how you could possibly reach your conclusion.
if you want to be overcharged for your components thats fine, just stop trying to drag other PPL down the same road as you.
plus legit reviews are up nvidias ass just like you numbnuts
ahh see legit reviews overclock the radeon, but dont compare it to an overclocked GTX275 sadly however the GTX275 still wins it seems a lot of the time even stock against the OC radeon. it kinda bears through to me that even if you go mad with the radeon, similar efforts on the GTX275 would still keep it ahead i suspect. legit reviews say: 'That said, the GeForce GTX 275 was a great card and in the majority of the benchmarks it was faster than the Radeon HD 4890 and the Radeon HD 4890 OC, which is impressive.'
well like i said, in the past the nvidia architecture has scaled much better than ATI with clock increases. i seen that the 4890 can beat the 285 after overclocking? well in the review rangers brought up, the 275 also went a long way past 285 clocks. it would also beat it, easily with those clockspeeds. its closer to it than the 4890 to start with, after all! im not convinced everyone here buys a graphics card and then instantly mega overclocks it anyway. i bet its only a relatively small percentage of the population. some people would argue about power consumption in one breath, then say all they care for is the overclocking ability! sounds kinda stinky argument to me. the people that are going to thrash the ATI cards with uber cooling may not be the people who are looking to buy it anyway - uber cooling means you probably have the money for better cards or multiple cards anyway like the 4870 X2
i bought a GTX275 today to replace my 4850. im happy with my purchase. i did like the 4850 but found the driver updates to support newer games to be quite slow, so im going back to nvidia and hope that this card will be good value for money. the tests look good for it and i like to try physx out on my games like UT3 and mirrors edge i hear its good on mirrors edge
guru 3d quote. 'The GeForce GTX 275 was launched with one sole reason only, to battle off the Radeon HD 4890. It's the cat and mouse game that ATI and NVIDIA have to play against each other. Competition is what makes this technology evolve and affordable, don't you ever forget that..............By doing so NVIDIA accomplished it's mission absolutely.'
note the last bit? any other reviews you would like to dispute? no? cos you know as well as i do that the 275 is faster. look at the tests in guru3d for example, the review you brought up. it just is. get over it ok! so you wanna talk about overclocking. you talk like the faster 275 cant overclock? you WERE reading the guru3d review right? then you would have seen that the card overclocks well. nvidia clocks scale bbetter than ATI anyway too in this generation, as well as most people dont buy to overclock. but thats another argument
lets see what guru3d said about the 4890 plasticman.
"Also, some icing on top of the cake is the Radeon HD 4890's tweakability. Looking at the GPU clock frequency, 850, 900, 950 perhaps even 1000 MHz on the core GPU clock is a possibility. It's exactly there where the product really starts to shine. The same can be said about the GDDR5 clock frequency, it's very tweakable and can be clocked a vast amount higher. If you clock it at 950 MHz on the core and 4400~4600 Mhz on the memory, the card will surpass GeForce GTX 285 performance."
so you must have been talking crap then when you said that guru3d has the 275 betting the 4890
while i don't really care about those new cards by both camps, i have this gut feeling that there is something fishy about the green camp release and how it unfolded. all those multiple dates of "release", "availability","actual availability" ... something is going on.
in any case none of these new cards introduce anything exciting to warrant an upgrade. cut the power consumption at least twice - it is not a spaceheater, and make all that computational power usefull for something other then games.
IGNORE the handpicked radeon fanbois tests. just look at the conclusions by these respected and numerous sites! pc po perspective, hardware canucks, guru3d, overclockers club, bjorn 3d, driver heaven, legit reviews etc etc...they all say 275 is faster. all of them. honestly, DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! just check them all and read for yourself instead of listening to these guys lies. GTX275 is clearly faster overall, to the point overclockers club say: The GTX 275 just outperformed the HD 4890 at every turn, with the exception being Crysis Warhead. that is the general consensus. thats how it is. sorry if im the bearer of bad news to certain cliques
Newegg has 5 different brands of the 275 all priced at $259. Newegg also has numerous priced HD4890 ranging from $249 to $299 most of them are at $264 so I would say the two cards are equally priced. From what the one post shows they are equal in performance too.
Of course the 275 is readily available, it's a rebadged 260... All partners have to do is make new stickers, new boxes, they already got piles of unsold 260 inventory, there you go, lots of brand new 275 ready for sale.
Thanks to Speed for being first out to point the obvious. GTX275 ain't faster than HD4890. Check out the reviews, not nVidia powerpoint presentations. Sure, it's a nice card, and it's pretty close, but not faster, not at all.
Oh, and it's not cheaper either. OK, maybe in UK it is, but overall, HD4890 is cheaper by some 10€. Not much again, but if it's a little bit cheaper, and a little bit faster, than it's surely a better product overall ;)
You are correct! CD is very bias and has little to factual evidence. Instead of providing sources from his information, he provides us with his rants. Whenever I see his name I just ignore the article. Theirs a difference between bad reporting and calling someone a name. CD has a personal grudge against NV and it carries over to his journalism. Sylvie is an example of non-bias reporting.
In terms of childhood attacks, the playground and this website are one in the same.
its not rebranded. its basically a GTX 295, cut in half with tweaks. so thats 240 streams, and the 448 bit bus from the GTX260. mix and match. the clock speeds also sit in between the 260 and 285, 633/1404/2328 core/shader/memory.
so what you have is a 200 pound card, closer to the 300 pound GTX285 in performance than the older GTX260! its easily faster than the 260 and the 4870, and faster than the 4890 too. looks like a great card for the money. nvidia win here
Seems like one of the largest roomers going around that it is just a rebranded existing product, not sure if it is a 260 or 280. It is just a roomer after all though, which will be settled very soon.
Why didn't Charlie write this? He just tells the same bs all day and when he goes wrong 9 out of 10 times somebody else from the INQ comes to explain. It really takes the credibility out of the reporter if you even care about that sort of things.
Agreed - CD needs to grow up first... Lol about the solitary confinement! Tsk tsk after all that nvidia bashing from the inq they finally hit one home eh- right onto inq's face..
@I know, have you read any of CD's articles regarding Nvidia? I think you should be directing your comments towards him. I've never read such biased and infantile journalism and I doubt it even deserves to be called that!
i mentioned the 50 plus in stock at novatech in the reviews article today, and this 'mystery phantom card' beats out the 4890 for good measure too, as well as being cheaper. nvidia kicks charlies arse i see
how Mr CD (middle initial J perhaps?) doesn't get involved in the positive Nvidia articles. Maybe he's only allowed one day a week from his solitary confinement..
I got one today at novatech. It is advertised as novatech brand, but looks just like the palit one. It cost £213.88 inc VAT. They currently have a lot of them in stock. They also have the 4890's in stock as well.
Dude - you need to stick [couldn't] before [care less]. You are stating that they could care less - which doesn't make sense (given the gist of your post).
Otherwise, good observations ; )

ATI fanboys VS NVIDIA fanboys.
I am going to bring my pop corn let the battle begin...
NVIDIA has better drivers, better support, linux drivers as fast as windows - very stable, faster cards, and CUDA!!!. AMD messed up this ATI thing big time. Their top management is worthless. I still buy their procs though.
First did nobody notice that Nvidia is playing driver games with this test
I have a 1680x1050 22inch and at my specific resolution Nvidia comes out on top in only one test and that one not even a full frame per second
at this resolution the 4890 scores pwns not only the 275 but the 280 and in some test beats out the 285
so unless you have a 30inch dell
stfu
so the big green weenies decided to cripple the most used resolutions to get a little more FPS on the two highest resolutions
but like usual most reviwers don't even test what most people game at because they get to much high end free shit
to bother with what people might actually use in their rigs
or maybe they just don't want to be kicked off the gravy train wich happens if you don't bow to jen hsu cuda phsx mantra
so do you research check your panel against the benches so at least you will realize
that the Halo or mythical top card is an illusion
and only matters if you have more money than sense
because Nvidia is more concerned with marketing and winning at the highest resolution possible than your gaming experiance
In both cases for the 4890 and the GTX 275, did any of those reviewers test product they bought off the shelf?
This is so funny reading, people who defend their gfx card(s)like its their grandma or mommy.Just enjoy the bloody thing and stop moaning that people dont think its as good as you do.

If you clock it at 950 MHz on the core and 4400~4600 Mhz on the memory, the card will surpass GeForce GTX 285 performance."
so you must have been talking crap then when you said that guru3d has the 275 betting the 4890
while i don't really care about those new cards by both camps, i have this gut feeling that there is something fishy about the green camp release and how it unfolded. all those multiple dates of "release", "availability","actual availability" ... something is going on.
in any case none of these new cards introduce anything exciting to warrant an upgrade. cut the power consumption at least twice - it is not a spaceheater, and make all that computational power usefull for something other then games.
oh well, me and my dreams...
Cheers ppl!

And so on, talk about misinformation!
Why do you people take pleasure in name calling and alike? We all left school and playground a long time ago mate. Grow up.
i mentioned the 50 plus in stock at novatech in the reviews article today, and this 'mystery phantom card' beats out the 4890 for good measure too, as well as being cheaper. nvidia kicks charlies arse i see
how Mr CD (middle initial J perhaps?) doesn't get involved in the positive Nvidia articles. Maybe he's only allowed one day a week from his solitary confinement..
a bad day for the filthy maggot, a good day for humanity.
I got one today at novatech. It is advertised as novatech brand, but looks just like the palit one. It cost £213.88 inc VAT. They currently have a lot of them in stock. They also have the 4890's in stock as well.
I bet that Palit just took all the GTX280 lying around and tweaked the bios to make gtx275 and be the first with stock !
OcUK Value GeForce GTX 275 896MB GDDR3 - available at OcUK.
Looks like the same Palit one with dual-fans and its £199+VAT.
