Exactly. They should be thankful they still have jobs. If enough of them would quit, the others could get their raise. Simple math.

The mission of a corporation is NOT to satisfy employees, it's to grow the company, increase stockholder worth, and increase the bottom line. That's it; that's what you find in every corporate mission statement. If you disagree as an employee, you always have the opportunity to seek employment elsewhere.

What you are saying is true, but honestly there are far too mcuh companies taking advantage in ways even governments are getting sick.

A enterprise/company works by the maximum profit rule. That's fine !!

But a consumer market exists because we are enough people earning enough money to form a freaking consumer market !!

Fujistu isn't the worst of the list. IBM, HP, Acer did much much worse. I as an IT Professional and consumer i refuse to buy anything from those companies. Like we launch FUD and massive attacks to "non-green" enterprises, we have to do the same for the "non-ethic" companies.

As a form of fighting this "non-ethical" companies, i just don't consume from them. There are always better alternatives than just the branding they represent. If a company does a contract with you, and you fail, your fired without a tear or compensation. If they fail to deliver their part of the bargain, you will have to suck it up and live with it.

And if one big company dies, 100 smaller, leaner and meaner take its place.

Yes it isn't required but when you promise employees a pay raise that is a different story all together. The employees didn't decide they should get more money, the company said they would.

radnor, there is nothing wrong with letting unneeded people go. if you are running a business, why should you employ more people then needed? the goal of Fujitsu is to provide it's owner with profit, not to be some kind of charity. yes it is nice when employer takes care of his employees, but it is not a given.

Many companies are using this crisis for layoff, job-shifting and reducing pay.

I understand a companies has to maximize pay, but laying off people just to satisfy shareholders, it should be fined. And that one came from a very respectable one.

I accept a pay cut if my company needs it, but i fully expect that those above me give the maximum example.

Like a little rumble that is being yelled all over the world, the rich people should pay dearly for this crisis.

Fujitsu employees are NOT well paid at all man. Most people in the UK are not on a decent salary. And I believe the article is about Fujitsu saying they would pay increases but then backtracking. A lot of companies here are using the excuse of the recession to cut on employees benefits and salaries and operate layoffs even thought the same company is actually posting earnings.
I think you're the one that should STFU.

Maybe these engineers didn't notice, but the financial crisis is very real and it's hurting a lot of us. They aren't the only people who didn't get a promised raise/bonus.

A lot of people lost their freaking jobs, and those jobs weren't nice cushy ones at Fujitsu, either.

The financial crisis isn't going away, either. There are too many structural problems with the American economy. (For starters, over-generous and under-funded pension plans and social security will soon be bankrupt).

These people have high paying jobs. They need to shut the hell up and enjoy what they've got.
