Still a question of whether a minority stake (34% AMD owned) meets the x86 license terms of AMD manufacturing 80% of its CPU in-house. Looks to meet the letter of the law ( 30% equity stake, =50% voting); but clearly is a dodge of the spirit of the license which is no significant outsourcing. With AMD stating overtly on the last conference call that they intend to fully divest themselves of the foundry over time their intent is clear.
I own a < 1% stake in AMD, can I claim that AMD is a subsidiary of "stockholder INC"... what's the magic number?
Wonder what will happen when the first capital call comes from the Middle East? Will AMD pony up some money or will their stake fall below 30% and be in violation of the x86 license and cry "monopoly, monopoly, monooply! Please help us the big bad evil Intel is actually wanting to enforce a contract we signed in good faith... it's just so unfair... you want that fab in NY built right?"
Based on tips provided by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Taiwan, the police Friday raided an electronics company located in Tainan, southern Taiwan, and seized a total of 60,000 suspect AMD CPUs, according to the police and sources at AMD Taiwan.
The suspect AMD CPUs, including K7 and K8 models, were defective CPUs that would normally have been destroyed. However, market sources said that the CPUs might have been stolen from one of AMD’s three packaging and testing plants in Asia and shipped to Taiwan for re-marking. "
What does this mean? Well it means that the Abu dabi has made a significant investment into the worlds 2nd largest Chip maker, and Graphics champion. The Abu dabi know and understand that the future of microprocessor technology is a one chip for design and AMD already has graphics and processor technology to boot. Intel is still struggling to compete on the graphics side of things tech wise. But Soon enough AMD will have a Graphics/CPU melded together to do what two chips had to do before, cutting costs saving energy and mass production. These are the ideal solutions for the future, of mobile, netbook, notebook, and even desktop systems.

What does this mean? Is AMD getting a new name too? That would be fun...
Anyone know more about this?
