Charles & Transistor Count....

fIRST IF OPENING rOUND IS 2 bILLION, & IT IS, How Many when 64 Cores is Developed? Got to be 10X or More, Say 20 Billion Tranistors. it took Whole 2 Billion to Fill 2 Cores & Move to Multi /Core, 32 Times 2 or 64 Billion. Somewhere in that range, although, maybe less than 20 billion, how many can poor INTEL develope per dium? Next: Is Charles Everywhere, I Hope So:To: Thomas Stewart Von Drashek (vondrashek@msn.com)

@Al

onchip graphics will be better than current Intel offerings at least, because they'll be built on a 45nm process, down from 65nm which might allow them to drive the clocks high. Besides, they'll have lower memory latency and higher bandwidth. . . . . . . . . . . . .<paragraph . . . . . . . .Now if they can pack a Larrabee core or four there, _that_ would be great. . . . . . . . . . .<paragraph . . . . . . . OK, so we're going to have mainstream i5 and i3 soon (lynnfield and havendale), around the end of this year. then we'll have mobile part, which wikipedia says will be called auburndale, around the end of this year too. all on 45nm. they say they'll be making 32nm mainstream parts first for a change this time, so either the life cycle of 45nm will be very short, or they'll co-exist with 32 nm mainstream parts. from what Charlie reports, mainstream 32nm will have only 2 cores and onchip graphics, while the high-end 32nm will have 6 cores. so maybe the 4-core 45nm and 2-core + onchip gfx 32nm will coexist, until sandybridge comes along, at the end of 2010, which will be a new architecture like Nehalem was.

re: blah

Mate... i think Charlie is talkin about chipset logic, not other components...

I woul stil disagree with Charlie, There are loads of other chipset bits NOT on a processor... eg networking/sata/audio + others i cant think of off the top of my head...

I cant see on-chip graphics being superior to on-board graphics for a while yet (if ever *flame* lol)

Charlie and the Spin factory fails again

"Pulling the graphics on die, and not giving any other option, signals the death of the chipset as, after the memory controller and graphics, there is precious little left."

And I assume computers don't have keyboards, hard drives, etc. Fail.

I like the underhanded subtle jab at nvidia too. Double fail.

Where's the quad core mainstream part? will the mainstream buyers be confined to two cores only?

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.
