I didn't see any mention of the nVidia powered phone (APX-2500) due out this year. I have to appologize to the above poster seeing as how this phone is sporting Windows Mobile and will offer the most powerful 3D phone experience yet.
Windows Mobile 6.1 is just a terrible operating system, and full of obvious bugs which should've been fixed a long time ago. Android running on the HTC Touch is far faster and smoother that WM, so its not hardware.
How many million polygons do you need to send an SMS?
In reply to comments above: is it that important to most users how many polygons a phone's graphics processor can push?
As long as the device is snappy enough to use for sending SMS & emails, browsing the web, looking up contacts, GPS nav etc, then it's all good!
My old Kaiser is quick enough, and the Touch HD I've tested is nice and snappy with basic ROM. Won't be great for 3D games, but the majority of users don't need that, and HTC's devices offer a lot that they do need. Hence the massive sales & optimistic outlook.
I'm sure HTC wouldn't be doing so well if more people were made aware of the slow performance of their devices, all due to HTC's lack of ability to create graphics drivers.
They are SLOOOW.
I have a Touch Pro (that has a Qualcomm MSM7500 chip inside) and the 3D performance is a disaster to say the least. It should be able to push out 4M poly/sec but can barely manage 100k poly/sec. Less than 2.5% of what it is capable of!
