Very poorly researched ... in fact wrong

Charlie you are either incredibly stupid or didn't do your historical research on Transmeta.

First of all I am retired from both Intel and Transmeta. Transmeta was Never sued by Intel because the technology is based on Wide Instruction Word CPU technology and software morphing at boot time. The x86 instruction set is not licensed!!! This means that one can emulate it and not be stuck with the archaic architecture that the original CPU is based upon. In fact, nVidia could also emulate a PowerPC instruction set or any other instruction set if they want.

From a verification point of view this is the best of solutions as well since it is easy to make changes to the instruction set at the last moment without changing the basic CPU architecture. In the chip development world verification take 70% of the time. Bottom line, this makes verification much easier.

This article looks like some wet-behind the-ears 25-something with little journalistic and certainly no technology skills put it together.

.Why the glee?

..'Time to cry into your life-size anime figure pillows guys.'

I am surprised and disappointed that comments such as this are bandied about by 'journalists'. I am also a bit surprised that Charlie has not moved on from the NV bashing - enthusiasts tend to go for the fastest/best, brand loyalty does not exist in most cases - look at the move from AMD to Intel when Core first showed it's head.
..and...Yes, there are fanboi's if you want to put a label on someone - IMHO it is cruel and spiteful to do so, as it affects enthusiasts OF ALL AGES and their own approach to others -" I ROX because my 4870X2 is better than your crappy NV, might break down at any time, POS..???"...also IMHO, the spirit of the www is being destroyed by commentaries such as the one above.
GL to the rest of you..

You all take things wayy to seriously. Who wouldnt write articles like this since they probably get so many hits from you chumps and fanboys arguing with each other over whos right and whos wrong. I love reading your comments on ATI vs Nvidia Arguments in the comment section of charlies articles. The INQ will never fire him especially since you noobs visit the article several times to argue..The more times you visit the article the more The INQ wants to keep charlie. All I have to say is cheers to charlie in keeping the INQ lively, and speaking his true feelings, even if they are SOMETIMES byaist. The lot of you FANBOIS should be ashamed.

A little story about a little boy

When he was a little boy, all Charlie could think about is been a famous reporter. Wow, someday I could work for National Geographic, or even Time magazine.
He saw all the other photo-journalists travelling around the world enjoying the sights, capturing news stories and making loads of exciting friends.

But Charlie never really did well at school, he was bullied and wet his bed at night. He failed in writing class and his dreams of becoming a world famous reporter went down the drain.

OK, Charlie thought, how about reporting for the Times, or the Herald, or even the BBC local news.

Nope, sorry Charlie, "you really can't write a good story" they told him. "You are inept at gathering proper research, your stories lack depth and grounding" they said.

So Charlie saw an opportunity to get his career kickstated. Damn it, he would pay back those bullies that had taunted him throughout his life, made him wet his pants and made all the girls laugh at him.

"I'll show them!"
He applied himself for a job at a tech news site, "But what can you do?" they ask.

"I'll write about those mean bully-boys" he replied. I will hide behind a little bit of tech news about a company I know absolutly nothing about, my research will be plagerism at best, because I am not good at writing my own content, but deep down I will make those nasty bullys pay. Pay with snide remarks, just to get them angry, because that's all I have"
And when Charlie goes home every night to his lonely bedsit, he looks at the comments others have made, he at first he is happy because he has paid the meanies back. But then he cries because he knows in his heart, that he hasn't fought back properly, he is just another try hard wanna be failed reporter with a chip on his shoulder.

He cries himself to sleep, and when he awakes, his bed is still wet.

His purpose?

You people on the red side want to give Charlie credibility for posting this crap, that's fine.
I find it more amusing reading your posts in attempt to defend him.
There is apparently only one thing that makes him going on and on and it's to wind people up because there are no other sites reporting all the issues nVidia have had recently. I wonder why?
I also wonder why someone actually is spending his awake state in digging up such a useless information?
nVidia is a great GPU maker and so is ATi. Just read any review you can find about ATi and nVidia from the last twelve months and one can draw such a conclusion that both companies are doing just fine.
I pity all the people who are defending and who are being wind up by him.

Awesome, dude!

Thanks man, Charlie! I always thought that it did not make sense for Nvidia to release GT212 since 40nm would not be ready until the very last day of Q2-2009 (think June 30). ATI would absolutely demolish the GT212 chip with its R800 chip that would be ready within a matter of weeks, if not already in June. Besides, Nvidia finally got around to releasing a 55nm GTX 285.

It was so retarded for there to be GT212 rumors, since it makes you guys not want to buy the GTX 285.. man, did Nvidia actually leak that?

You guys flaming Charlie, just shut up y'all! You should be glad that Charlie is sharing this insider-rumor to you. Usually, when there's a rumor saying that it will _not_ be released, it is true far more often than a rumor saying that it would be released at a certain date.

I mean, June is still 6 months from now, so it would be time for next-generation chips, with DX11 right around the corner.

So, just go and buy GTX 280/285 cards if you want the best for now under $400 without having to worry for the next 6 months, which is a comfortable amount of time. I do not expect ATI to release RV780 either--even if ATI did, it still wouldnt be faster than the GTX 285. And there are absolutely zero indications that ATI plans to improve upon its 4870X2 with RV780 chips, so Nvidia's GTX 295 will continue to compete well for a while. It's just that there's no need for Nvidia to focus on GT212, especially when all of the work should be put into GT300.

Thank you, Charlie! Seeing how many comments there are, you've certainly made the INQ that popular!!!

And then they continue to post the same comments? regardless of what your opinion is, if you don't like what you see, don't look at it. @ssj4Gogeta

Its not just about the term fanboy. Your post ssj4Gogeta, is also a straw man argument (look up straw man argument if you don't believe me). Charlie has shown in many posts over months, he has no journalistic integrity, yet his news articles purport to be real news. His behaviour calls into question the credibility of all news on all subjects on TheInq. Which articles can we believe? He has no credibility. Even parts of his posts over the months, which prove to be real, are stained with endless biased, hate filled misrepresentations, which contain parts shown up later as deeply false. So which parts of the post can we believe? Hence no credibility. This 2nd NVidia post today by Charlie is just a thinly disguised attempt to hit out at his critics. Today he has crossed the line. I'm all for tearing down companies press releases, to show what they don't want others to see, but Charlie's posts are a one track hate filled vendetta, which over the months has shown he sees NVidia as personally slighting him over not inviting TheInq to press events etc.. I've never bothered to post on TheInq before this week, but his attitude has push me to comment on his unacceptably unprofessional behaviour. A news site without credibility, isn't a news site.

Charlie's job

Actually, if you ask me, Charlie is being paid by NV itself..
Any mentioning of a company is better than the company just being ignored. And with the way Charlie portrays NV in such overly negative way, it must put some sympathy for 'poor' NV in the brains of people.
This is modern marketing!

Sadly, it's not news reporting...and that's what we all come here for!

They obviously prefer to have their heads urinated on and then told that its raining. They don't see Nvidia's constant manipulation of their tame press. or the way its meant to be played program or as I like to say if you can't engineer performance buy it (the assasin 's creed fiasco if they need an example) or their unwillingness to ever admit to a mistake and when they are forced against their will to admit a mistake you can almost garentee it will be several orders of magnitude worse than they will ever admit to !

So for Jen Hsu the next Jerry Wang it looks like your can of whoopass is a fart in the whirlwind.

Charlie, we are not fools

"THE FRUSTRATION FELT BY Nvidia fanbois is quite obvious,"

That is a straw man argument. (i.e. an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position). Not everyone is a fan of NVidia. We just want news, not a barrage of vitriolic bile, every time NVidia has to be mentioned. This isn't a news site article, its descending into Charlie's ego trip. Its a very clear attempt to misrepresent opponents of his behaviour, in an attempt to cover his ass and make us look like we are in the wrong.

Charlie, the continued extreme condescending arrogance and utter contempt you are very evidently showing, and treating The Inquirer readers with, (as you have just once again shown), demonstrates very clear signs of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. You are here for your ego, to win yourself some attention, not to report and provide news. The news reports on here are just descending into sickness.

Charlie, your articles regarding NV's engineering 'bumps' are greatly appreciated... but this article here is completely unnecessary. You stated that the GT212 was canned (and it's probably the case) in the your previous article, called "Nvidia delays 40nm parts". Seems like you're goading the fanboys with this one. Why bother? Yeah, and...?

Charlie's condescending tone aside, I think this is a good thing. There's really no need to release a new high-end part every six months any longer. PC gaming isn't there any more, and nvidia knows this. I'm completely happy with my GTX260 (216) that offers great performance yet for the next 6-12 months, and the pricing is just right.

They should just concentrate on GT300. PC gaming might just live through another renaissance with Windows 7 and DX11, just as long as nvidia realises to get the pricing right this time

Carry on, Charlie

The entertaining part is that, rather than ill-informed nonsense based on nothing but unfounded opinion (hello Egan!), what makes Charlie's tirades unpalatable to many is that they are actually based on well-researched facts.

So carry on, Charlie. nVidia deserve everything they get at the moment, and a few bilious broadsides that include the brand-addled fools who insist on defending nVidia's tattered honour are much appreciated from these sidelines.

"Fanboy is a term used to describe any individual who is devoted to a single subject in an emotional or fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession."
