I have 2 HD 4850 I have applied the patches as they come and still find these cards the biggest waste of money I ever made.As soon as I have some money to buy Gforce instead I will happily take a hammer to these 2 cards which have crashed my pc countless times.I have followed and waited patiently for the issues to be resolved and just today I have other applications now fked up because these cards creating all kinds of work for me since i use the pc for work.
This is after the latest so called update released was applied to try and resolve the constant fk ups ive endured.
They are overheating overrated pieces of shit.I wish I never wasted my money on this pure crap...
This is for 99flake... listen guy, the users who actually can have an opinion in this matter are people who are running Vista 32/64 with or without crossfire and not a Pentium 4 with 512mb's of RAM, Linux and a 9700Pro get with it hax0r. When you can crossfire in Linux and play Crysis at 40+ fps, come back here and chime in. No gripes about linux here, just about it's all too smart users like 99flake.
Their drivers for windows XP64 (and vista64 too I hear?) are causing BSOD, then there were complaints about it on their forum, with no official reply from them, then they apparently read some of the things dumbasses tried and said 'might help a bit' like disabling dual channel RAM and moving hardware around and disabling (security and other) components in windows, anyway after seeing that they released a 'knowledge base' article claiming the BSOD's were caused by 'bad hardware and/or overclocking', hardware which magically goes bad once you install 8.12 and good again once you revert to an older driver.
In short: ATI are idiots who lie like mad rather than stepping up to the plate and admitting they can't code a proper driver and need more time.
Meanwhile some amateur on their forums did seemingly manage to source the error, to a component of their control backend service and found that replacing a small file with one from their previous driver fixed the problems.
Rate how helpful this truth was ATI: 1 2 3 4 5, go on, have a go.
2 x 4850 TOXIC in crossfire, works just fine for me with 8.12. Have had ATi like forever and have never been disapointed in their drivers.. whenever I have had some game problem, be it corruption, crashes whatever. It has been fixed in the next driver release, only a month away..
Wow, the article writer actually believes AMD have to give instant official statements just for them about bug reports without giving them some throughful checking first. You got the hotfix, won't you be happy?
This issue is not a new one and if you had carried out a bit of research you would have found this - http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=104526&enterthread=y which was posted the day 8.12 was released. Also, this issue existed on Catalyst 8.11. ATI have blamed everything from incompatible motherboards to Microsoft for the problem. How they can be so dumb is beyond me. Older drivers work, new ones don't!!! Only change is the driver so why is it anyone elses fault? Get a grip ATI or your new found market share will evaporate as fast as Madoff's ivestors money.
The AEE problem that has been the major pain of the whole crossfire issue has been around for the last 3 driver released (8.10hotfix, 8.11, 8.12)... Only after did the code changes finally break one series of cards (Just happened to be their new ones) did they begin to give a crap about this issue. The nice part was there was no ATI official posting on their forums or going out of their way to say we will get this fixed, instead we get a stealth kb drob, and promises from forum members that talk to the driver team.
ATI: Some advice, fire your driver team, hire Nvidia's. Also can your pr dept, and let chimps run it, since god knows they'll be as effective at communicating with the public.

Vista and XP are both completely shit operating systems, Vista doubly so.
If you use vista you deserve everything you get.
If you paid for Vista, you definately deserve everything you get....
Ubuntu works fine...because ATI had very little to do with the drivers.
That said, could be worse, you could have crappy hardware and dodgy drivers on a crap OS if you use Nvidia and Vista... ///shudder///

Honestly I have given up on ATi their drivers are just worthless, the only good drivers I have had all year for my crossfire x1900xt cards is 8.6
Even then I had problems in GTA IV where fluoro lights in tunnels and above a pool table were not working.
Throw in some good ol' 2D corruption on the police computer and the internet screens and I have just had it with them.
I could have bought a HD 4870 1GB of even a x2 but now I have a GTX 280 which so far has been very stable and plays flawlessly. Pick up your game ATi!
Oh and a classic quote: "Ati cards are like London double decker buses, Big and red with really bad drivers" This always rings true!
don't call me, Shorely!

I worked at ATI as a tester and they fired a lot of their in house game testers. So it doesn't surprize me they are looking for outside testers.

It's good to know that you think the world revolves around you.
