I have read that the Atom N270 sometimes cant play a 720p x264 file. If the Divx codec can play it smoothly no matter is thrown at it I'll be buying one these weekend.
Atom N270 netbooks can already play 720p hi-def; just get the new divx h264 codec - smooth as silk on my Aspire One. That said, it would be DAMN NICE to have a graphics chip capable of 3D that wasn't pathetic back in '00.
...I'm a bit afraid of buying anything nvidia right now because of the bumpgate response. If they're not going to be forthcoming about their core product, I don't have much faith in them doing so on a side project, should something go wrong.
This seems like just the sort of thing that Intel would forbid OEMs from using if they want to continue to get Atom shipments.
At the same time Nvidia may be shooting itself and Intel in the foot. The crippled platform is what was keeping Atom from cannibalizing it's more fully featured brethren's sales.
A dual core Atom chip and GeForce video, a 12 inch screen that does 1280x768 or even better 1920x1080, 4 gb of RAM and a 250GB hdd or larger, ruing Windows 7 with a linux Pre-Boot system.
If thay could make that for 500 pounds or so, i would be first in the Q
Even on medium settings, only at 800x600 on a 10 inch screen, 30fps should be easy enough. If it can do that for £300 then it can sell.
Stick on a TV/Monitor Out, freeview/digital TV receiver, WiFi, mobile sim slot, and it's about all I need.
If it can do Steam, and if I can retro load my games up into Steam, and down onto any other pc, then I'm in!

WHERE THE HELL IS TEGRA?
It's good to see Nvidia coming back to you with a "scoop". I wonder what Charlie has to say about all this - have you checked the bumps?!
