Make the journo's bring their own laptops, just supply them with wireless and LAN.

1,000 servers and 10,000 pc's, who are going to use these?

Live footage, straight to the press distribution networks which already exist for BBC, SKY, ITV etc in UK. That's the TV coverage sorted.

Print/Web media - they can just use their laptops from their hotel suites, or from the WiFi at the venues or journo porta-cabins.

It's 2 weeks of running around, 14 days at £14billion.

£1billion a day to run around. It would be cheaper to pay all the atheletes £100,000 each and get them to run around in our local parks, and more of us would get to see them close up.

Of course I am ignorant!
Why dont they cut everything out and hold it like the original Olympics, Naked, talk about news media money. Coverage of the Olympics has gone way down and viewership has too. I think making everyone compete naked would really boost the coverage.
There is a suitable, economical and reliable solution the government might be able to afford in these trouble times.

I have a few old BBC Model B's with Econet in my attic.

I dunno. The thought of a 20 stone hairy-arsed shotputer does not do it for me. And the male competitors even less!
