2x 4830 costs 240$
1x BFG GTX 280 OCX costs 460$
And they have similar performance.
On top of that you can OC the 4830's to 650 core easy. And with the new ATI Stream being rolled into Catalyst 8.12 on Dec 15th I would definately get the 4830CF over the GTX280 even if money was no option.

or for an apples to apples comparison compare the 400$ 4850x2 to the 400 GTX 280 . the 4850x2 beats it.

Nvidia cannot catch up with ATI.
ATI own price vs performance and they own the top end with 4870x2 crossfire.

Nvidia made a big mistake with the GTX200 series, and they will continue to pay for it till Nvidia come up with a new core. the 200 core is simply too expensive to produce

It should read "beats GTX260"

But this is an amazing value. One of ATI's partners needs to come out with a 2 gig dual 4830 card. That might interfere with the pricing of single GPU cards, but the Crossfire potential is there.

As Crossfire support in drivers improved, framerates with my "old" and high priced 3870x2 (paid $450 for it originally) shot up. Now it's absolutely amazing that cards like the 4830 and 4850 in Crossfire or dual GPU do so well vs. Nvidia's monolithic competition.

Hexus is a N-site

If you check the reviews of the 4870 at techreport ,tomshardware and guru3d,you'll notice how hexus review is fake.Hexus, for a long time now, is a N-vidia supporting site.
@ techreport, the 4870 beats the 280gtx in 4 out of 6 games @ 1920 res. and beats the 260gtx in every tested game.

I think someone should warn those cheap sites to prevent them from posting those fake benchmarks.

It Takes Two...

It takes two ATi cards to equal one Nvidia, what it so new about that?

Have fun with those cards in the majority of games where CF scaling is poor at best.

GTX 280???

Get over it nVidia fanbois, 4830 in crossfire wipes the floor with the GTX 280. Accept it, live with it, and move on. We all new that was going to happen. If you have a GTX 280, this article must've given you a headache. hahahaha

ok, where are the 9800GT's

Seems kinda hollow w/o some 9800GT's in SLI to compare with, they would also score well in COD4 etc.

Seriously?

You might want to take a closer look at that Hexus review. The 4830 certainly does well in the few games that do very well in Crossfire mode. But it's far from wiping the floor with the GTX280. Seriously Inq, do u guys own shares in AMD or something? You certainly plug them enough.

Hexus?

Not sure why you guys are taking their reviews so seriously. They are using Nvidia drivers from JULY! and some of those tests are well dodgy. no min FPS which is all important and resolutions to suit the game.

AMD backhander methinks.

HD 4830 crossfire wipes out GTX 280

The one catch is it only wins with multi GPU friendly games not to mention it takes two cards and much more electrical power to beat the single chip/card 280. I would pick the single card solution of the GTX 280 any day, actually I would go with the GTX 260 that is not many FPS behind the 280 for much less $.

Did anyone actually read the Hexus review?

You seem to indicate that 4830 beat the GTX... there were 4 games...at the highest res the GTX "won" in 2 (Comp of Heroes/Quake), the 4830 won in 1 (Call of Duty) and the fourth didnt have a highest res test for some reason... and to top that off there is no mention of minimum fps which is always a weak point for crossfire... how you got from that a feeling that the 4830cf is a better buy i cant see...

great news but time will tell.

If this is trues then it it's awesome news for gamers! I tend to take stories like this with a grain of salt.

If peole take the time to took at all the reviews that show the 4870 vs againt the GTX 280 for the same game some reviews wil show ATI minning other reviews will show Nvidia winning. Same when we look at game specific benchmarks (ex: far cry 2 performance atricles etc..)
I really hope this is real….I go bavk & forth between both companies depending on performance & as a canuck I'dlike to see ATI do well.
