If I want...

...to pay for the electricity to leave my console/pc/TV on all the time, then I bloody well will - and the above-mentioned sanctimonious twits can feel free to turn off THEIR computers ALL the time to offset me.

That way, I have the freedom to choose how to spend -my- money and live -my- life, and -they- can find something to do other than typing this holier-than-thou drivel.

Ya....

Now I have no doubt that this number is probably fairly accurate but what they don't tell you is that the annual power consumption of computers worldwide is probably somewhere along the lines of 100-200 times that and it's going up.

Seriously I wish everyone would stop bitching about making electronic products green and instead focus on making power production green. I mean honestly which makes more sense, spending billions a year globally on research and development to reduce power consumption with varying results or spending those same billions to replace harmful power production methods with green methods? Hmm slightly greener products which people might not buy or be able to buy because they are usually more expensive vs green power which they will get weither they realise it or not. Seems to me making power green is the better route.

Look at it from an economic standpoint. Which better stimulates the economy, more expensive green products or cheaper green power? Cheaper green power not only allows people more money to spend on things they don't need, ie stimulating the economy, but would also allow, but not necessarily result in, everything else dropping in price because cost overheads on production, distribution, and point of sale would be reduced.

So ya cheaper, more efficient green power is the way to go.

What Model PS3 & 360?

Just which model where they using for the 360 & PS3 test because they now have die shrinks in both CPU & GPU (I know PS3 is currently at 65nm for both but 45nm is either out or around the corner).

XBOX 360 has 65nm CPU and I think now FINALLY has the 65nm GPU shrink and I think another 1 is on the cards for both to 45nm. Which you think M$ would force to happen lower costs in productions etc it wouldn't mean much but Sony apparently on it's next shrink are using different chips as well smaller and low energy ones.

I am assuming it's the current 80GB model which is still just a 40GB revision with a larger HDD. Question to any new 360 owner does the new console have the recent GPU shrink I cant remember when it was impletmented July 08 I think?

Remarks

City like san diego huh, but what if the people of san diego turned off their consoles? All your calculations would be ruined.

(Little factoid: americans use twice as much power as any EU nation does, weighed by population)

Blimey

there is no such thing as green, well only the hulk.
Green is a myth, just like the hulk.
The prius uses batteries that are just as toxic as car emissions, lcd's put out more pollution when manufactured than a crt ever will. How about some responsible moderation, better yet lets go back to the stone age.

Green Games!!

We need game companies to focus on "green" gaming. Give us the ability to Save in whichever part of the level we want! Plus some faster loading times (what? we have green concerts, green cars, why not green gaming)

Finally

A green reason not to restrict save points to a select few places within the game.

Eh?

"Considering the furthering of consoles as a social-networking hub and media-centre type device, the consumption of energy by consoles is only set to rise."

But presumably that would be offset by the fact that you wouldn't need your PC on so there's actually no increase.

And also I'd say b***ox to the fact that most people leave there consoles on to return to a level. What game now doesn't autosave you every ten seconds whenever you do anything remotely difficult?

It's not like the Atari/NES/SNES/etc. days when you had to play a game through in one go.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
