You are right to place the word "market" in quotes. Maybe £200 million a year will change hands - going mostly from taxpayers' pockets into those of big defence and IT vendors - but what useful end-product or service will be created? None at all!

Digging holes in the ground and then filling them in again would be positively productive compared to this vast exercise in restriction, spying, and fear.

BTW, the UK is not the only annexed country. Take a look at Germany (there you also pay the propaganda stations for an "Internet license"), Italy, etc.. Same scheme.

Great, so what the government is saying is, "Put all your eggs in one basket!"

This scheme seems mad for lots of reasons - firstly it puts a lot of information into the governaments hands again that may not necessarily need. It makes it easier for criminals too, as all the data is in one place. Also if you lose it - you're stuffed !
