I hate to be contentious, but can any of you people count? You know, like 1,2,3 ect? Take a count of the number of neurons in the brain and the sheer complexity of the interconnections. Do you think we will ever be able to build a machine to match this? Or do you think we can get by with a less complex device but with faster computation and better algorithms?
Speech recognition is, of course, just one of many tasks even a very young human can do routinely and simultaneously.

Realy. I work with people who speak many colloquial dialects an I,m allways saying "eh" "pardon" "you wa".

So If a 45 year old can't understand these language stranglers what chance a PC. Maybe Blue gene could manage it.
