E17 is super-lightweight. It was as fast or faster on my 500 MHz dual Celerons w/ 384MB RAM than KDE or Gnome on my 2.8 GHz P4 w/ 512MB RAM at work. The last update I ran was even so lightweight that you were done with the file browser as soon as you opened it. I'll give them props for making a fast system, but unfortunately it won't be ready for prime-time until after Duke Nukem' Forever.

Still on Hotmail? You'll love gmail!
I've recently switched to my first Linux laptop. Once Linux becomes popular enough to gain critical mass Windows is toast. M$'s steaming pile of crap which is otheriwse known as Vista will be remembered as the mistake that killed the biggest software company the world has ever known. All the new DRM crap finally pissed me off enough to learn a new OS. Now I just have to dump the hotmail account I've had for a million years.
After reading the article I am convinced the should have named it "The Ugooglizer Super soarawary tiny OS"

gOS just doesn't sound like anything except a substance that may very well resemble play dough.

JGurtz,

I don't know what planet you are on, but enlightenment is lightweight. It is so lightweight it works on almost anything.
ubuntu 7.1 ?? i thought it was more like 7.10
The version of Ubuntu is "7.10", not "7.1". The 10 represents the month of October.
So I'm all for web 2.0... but holy Christ that is over kill....

Lightweight and Enlightenment in the same sentence?

That's the best laugh I've had all day!
