Could be also because my 3yo mid-high desktop of the time is still doing all that it needs to.
3800x2, 2gb, 6800gt, xp.

I still crank up the occasional game, but really I cannot yet see a point in upgrading anything except perhaps the video card.

Laptops on the other hand appear to have a limited useful life. In Australia, up till recently we were able to salary sacrifice laptops meaning we effectively purchased them for about 30% off. Not anymore. It'll be interesting to know what impact this has had on sales.

Figures

65-90W vs 300-500W, most of the relevant functionality and portable to boot. Not to mention cheaper shipping and no need for a UPS?

For higher end Desktops there is no comparison but if you just want a pc to surf and type documents why bother with a desktop?

Yay! Let's all go out and buy really small PC's which are slow as hell, burn ur lap and are annoying as hell to get ON ur lap because of how big they are...oh wait... the irony!
