you forgot to mention that they overhauled the code massively and optimised a lot of it and removed a lot of defunct extensions and compacted and optimised the librarys a lot too,

All I see among devolpers is anger and maybe a little bit of rage. Apparently, this is NOT what they've all been waiting/hoping for.

Competes with D3D is a bit tenuous isn't it? ;) Looks like we'll have to wait for GL3.1 for the competition we were promised with GL3.0 :(
