DRM KILLS BluRay.

As Well rounded as Unit Seems, there will be FEW BluRay movies Recordable & Disc cost More than MOVIE.

Sure Smartie Pants, you can use it for DATA Disc, yet so what. REAL Money is in Billions ofDiscs Ignorant Pirates BUY To learn Twitter with.

Did I say Pirates, I Meant Criminals. So Scared OUT So Much, Bye Bye BluRay, for Now, after all: 40 DVD RW units Beats 1 Crummy HDDVD Kombo player by Spades worth.
However, market for player for all HDTV Newbies should bring em like Bugs to Flood Lamp.

question

more important question surely is wtf is with the dvd speeds -

write at 16x but only read at 12x ???

Write speed / Read speed
DVD+R - 16x / 12x Max
DVD-R - 16x / 12x Max

eh?

can you clarify / confirm this?!

Mini

Does this product READ/WRITE mini Blu-Ray and mini DVD disks?

LGs answer was spot on...

There will be no need to update _DRIVE_ firmware due to new profiles and stuff coming out - disc contents are still accessible and depend on the playback software to actually be played back.
Author failed to understand his own question, not LG ;)

Constant Linear/Angular Velocity

That 6x speed is achieved via CAV, so it's not 6x Blum-ray standard which is based on CLV.. It averages about 4x, 20 minutes vs 40. comparing to 2x. You see the difference in those two tests, where one is a constant speed and the other starts out slow and gains speed, to 6x, as it reads the outside tracks-CAV.

So 4x Blum-ray...is about the same speed as regular DVD now, about 18 MB/s, after a generous correction for regular DVD CAV mechanics.

I personally don't see the point in using CLV. It limits the media to half of it's top speed because in order to get the same linear or track speed across the whole disc, you have to spin the disc slower from it's top speed at the inside track. Oh, unless it's another artificial price point for the colludes to sell as a new product. I say 'another' because I don't believe 2x speed was the best this technology could do-that's at least 10x slower RPM than regular DVD.

It's cool to see the ranks on the collusion breaking a bit and one of these companies actually trying to compete, rather than walking lock stop. Still looks pretty weak though.

I'd love to see a RAID 0 regular DVD set up. Maybe that's the next HD format. What does two of those drives cost? Blu-ray is like the Itanic of the optical world. Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we design to deceive.

Live responsibly and please don't drink and breathe.

Why is it bad?

How is being able to burn 4x media at 6x a bad thing???

Go me

My ASUS DRW-2014 burns 16x DVD media at 20x speeds: go me
Even if it's "4x certified" media - surely it can still be capable of going even faster than that

The Bad

What you have listed as bad is incorrect. Isn't the article stating that the drive was able to write 6X on 4X Blu-ray media? Or to put it another way, where can I get that 6X Blu-ray media?

Why May?

Bought mine last December when the format war was undecided. Why the review 5 months late?

BD-RE speeds are disappointing with the supplied Verbatim media but with the price of blank blu-rays I was pleaseantly surprised of its inclusion.

PowerDVD not totally brilliant but for bundled software good value I say.

Your right about that lousy eject button. In my Shuttle with a drive cover the external eject button does not line up off it right. I need to apply downforce to the case when I want to eject otherwise the whole machine moves!

how fast?

The bad:

6x burning at 4x

-------------------

i thought the article said it burnt 4x at 6x? thats a good thing...

and then the summary says it can only burn 6x media at 4x?

so it burns 6x media at 4x and 4 x media at 6x? something isnt right there..
