Don't you see, taking their kid away, locking them up and prosecuting them is just their way of being funny! I'm sure the parents where laughing the whole time, I mean with such misguided humor, how could they not?!

So yes, if you are in Germany and you make a very very VERY bad and stupid joke then don't be surprised when the authorities show you in kind just how funny THEY can be.

Seriously though, parents that makes such jokes aren't fit to be parents. Hopefully the parents know how lucky they are to be given a second chance.

From my youth spent traveling though Europe, I got the feeling that a German in official position seemed to not even know the concept of joke, much less anything requiring them to actually think outside the strictest interperation of the rules.

So the fact that the authorities would overreact was kind of expected.

It is really strange in a way, as having had to do with many germans in less formal situations and have definitely not noticed any lack of humor or similar. It only seems to affect them when in official capacity.
