Even with encryption available this eerily mirrors Orwells "predictions"

Encryption may be available, but what really worries me is why do we have to do use it in the first place. Against criminals, sure, but now we are forced to use it against our own governments as well in order to keep any shred of privacy.

Next they will prohibit encryption, then they will start re-writing the constitutions to cover any loop-holes in their powers.

Truth of the matter

It has been shown in various cases of confirmed terrorist as well as those planning terrorism that they do NOT use encryption, in fact they quite openly talk about stuff on forums often, but in email they certainly most often don't use encryption.
As for how stupid that is? I'd like to point out that we all know from personal experiences that most companies send confirmation emails often with personal details as if email is a secure medium too.
People are just by-and-large stupid, you and I included I fear.

I don't appreciate how every country eavesdrops on all mail passing through it though, especially in europe your communication often travels through several countries who are pretty extreme (like the UK) and they all feel justified to read/store your personal communications.

Open Season

It's said that as dumb as it seems, many people confess their criminal record in their immigration forms. So it just makes sense to weed out those stupid enough to not use encryption and they plan their next mass murder.

Stupidity³

Any volunteers who try to explain the word " encryption" to the uncivilized people in the Swedish forests ?

The whole things sounds like a fairy tale, to believe that terrorist wont use modern, cryptographic techniques is uttermost naive.

Heja Sverige ...
