Not Surprising

I am constantly amazed by people who work in "technology" who have very little conception of what is possible. We all have middle managers who decree "thou shalt not IM" or any other prohibited activity.

All I can say is if the average Iranian or Chinese user can find a way around their system blocks or decrees, what do you think the experts can do. And an expert would be almost anyone with a little knowledge of these systems.

Most people managing IT are completely clueless about what is going on.

And I like it that way....

Messaging could be the best for the business after all...

One of the greatest things in a company I worked before was the fact you could use yahoo messenger and communicate to the outside world. The funny thing is, that it in fact was a security company.

One of the benifits was that I could talk to former colleagues in other companies and could get problems resolved a lot faster than with for instance emails or opening official tickets - obviously those colleagues used tunnels and stuff to break out which made the hole thing far more dangerous than simply allowing it. Experts often know experts in other companies and you should give them an easy way to get in touch with them otherwise they might find a way to do so anyway and it might create a greater threat than the messaging itself!

Do you think the move was justified?
