Core 2 is based on Yonah/Centrino which was a real good platform however compare it with the previous architecture and in reality it was a sum of various tweaks that added up along with many optimizations. Therefore like i said their very very advanced but not the top. Israel's not the sole talent of Intel. Intel's talent lies within its reach and various markets and the culmination of various techniques and technologies derived from its many R&D centers.

The Desktop Group at the time had a massive budget and the development lab in Israel was considered completely marginal by Intel bosses. It operated on a tiny budget compared to the huge Desktop Group...

How many people were working on Centrino? 100? How many in the Desktop Group...? 1000, 2000?

It just goes to prove that:

a) Pentium III kicked serious ass and all it needed was a die-shrink + some power management features to remain viable.

b) Pentium 4 should never have seen the light of day. They should've considered it merely a "research path". Learning curve if you may.

c) you can do a lot with a little ingenuity.

The Centrino mobile platform was invented and developed in Israel's design centers, as long as the Banias, Dothan, Yonah, Merom, Conroe, and Woodcrest, all very successful and appreciated processors.

It is the Israeli developments that saved Intel from the Pentium 4 fiasco.

Israeli engineers are the ones who saved Intel's ass with the Core architecture.

Good article as said but how could perlmutter claim Intel Israel is the engine of Intel worldwide? I mean Intel has at least 9 different research labs. Don't get me wrong Israel is Very very advanced but not The top as is claimed in this case.
