Thanks Tim, you got my point. Basically, what you have to explain to the ‘civilians’ is the quad core was two dual cores. Then came a lengthy explanation. By that time, they had that “Head lights in the Deer’s eyes look.”

i7 although weak, is a refreshing change, and a welcome departure.

And fella’s I know the difference, I have QX9770 on a P5E3 Pre. I know what it is, trust me. The obvious response from my post, however, is indicative of the confusion in the average public/consumer sector. And WE all know what we’re talking about, right? Take that and imagine a first time newbe buyer.

This is actually the 8th-generation Intel core CPU, in this order:

- 8086
- 80286
- 80386
- 80486
- Pentium
- Pentium Pro, II, III, M, Core
- Pentium 4
- Core2
- i7
That's why it wasn't the "Core 2 duo quad", but either the "Core 2 Duo" for a dual core, or the "Core 2 Quad" for a quad core.
I think they would have been better off with 'Core 3', cos most people are dim, and that would be an easy way for them to know it was the next generation. Ask a person who shops in PC World what they'd rather have; a core2 or a core 3, the answer would almost certainly be "Well, 3 has got to be better then 2, right?", then ask them if they would rather have core 2 or core i7, and I don't think they'd be as certain.
I thought intel's marketing dept. were supposed to be hot?
Well thats a major breakthrough in marketing ingenuity.

Wonder how long and how many millions that cost.

Should have called it i-$

I was getting tongue tied trying to explain/recommend to people about ‘Core 2 Duo Quad.’ (Huh? Say that three times fast.) Most folks didn’t remember it five minutes after you told them. Besides, Duo/Quad is a contradiction in terms; then they’d get really confused.

Now say i7, simple, effective, new, and powerful, not bad, actually, like QX, for example.

Perhaps if Intel just discovered 1337 speak ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet ), the i7 means, "it." Oh, wait... Wasn't Segway, a.k.a. Ginger, supposed to be "IT"?

It's all about the BINGO, chaps!

i7=is|even _ luck number slevin?
Once you come to terms with Intel's Tock-->Tick, you see that "EVEN" is Odd. EVE|N. Chalk it up to another Da Vincible code. I fear that Otellini may be a Grand Master of the Priority of Ison, who protects the Big Jobs, whilst also are out to Huang the poor Mageeks of this world. Need more proof? Consider that Rosslyn Chapel is for "rose" chapel, which is a "bloom" and lies in a field... Bloomfield. Coincidence? Not hardly me thinks. Roslin Glen lies just *7* miles from Edinburgh, Scotland. What else is in Scotland? Macs. They've hundreds of thousands of Macs in Scotland. This not convinced? Consider that Parliamentary constituencies of the British House of Commons was established in the year 1366. Further more, Sir Isaac Newton, himself, was enrolled in Trinity College in the year 1663. "So", you say? Trinity College is just down the road from Magdalene College in Cambridge. "Silicon Fen" is also a deliberate rhyme with "Silicon Glen", a pre-existing high-tech enclave in Scotland. Silicon Fen: Where-are, incubators such as ARM and Sinclair.

Rotten to the Isaac Newton Apple core!

Too bad really that the Red Team let grass grow under their feet on these.
That's a bloody awful name. People who bitched about AMD calling their chips "Phenom" should really hang their heads in shame. While I realise that Intel and Apple are currently spooning each other, jumping on the very old marketing bandwagon of putting an "i" in front of everything isn't a good move. Before any smart-arse points it out, i'm fully aware that intel have been naming their chipsets and various other components that way for years, but it was Apple that made the usage famous. Nowadays whenever I see a computer-related product with "i" at the beginning, it's either an Apple product or more likely one of a million cheap Chinese knock-offs that falls apart in your hands.

Rename it the "iSchlep". Do it! DO IT!!! [/arnie]
Are you sure? Internally i7 refers to software primitives optimized for Itanium. Would expect intel to opt for something like Core-V8 given 75% of their revenue comes from Asia and the "8" in manadarin sounds like the chinese word for "properous".
The name is:

Core i7 800 > 2.66GHz
Core i7 900 > 2.93GHz
Core i7 900 Extreme Edition > 3.2 GHz

I want a Core i7 900 EE !!!!

SPARKS, there's no such thing as a "Core 2 Duo Quad." It's either Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad...
What's a "Core 2 Duo Quad", and where do I buy one?
Do they want people to pronounce "Core i7" as "Core is heaven?"
Well thats a major breakthrough in marketing ingenuity.

"Besides, Duo/Quad is a contradiction in terms; then they’d get really confused."

Maybe thats why it's called the Core 2 Quad :p

Since internationalisation is often abbreviated as i18n, maybe i7 is idiotic?
If they left off the Pentiums with the 4, let's say the Core Duo would be 5, the Core 2 Duo 6...and this 7?
Not i768, some people refered referred to it as that unofficially.
Maybe Intel one to match the name I7 with Windows Seven?
Pentium = i1
Pentium II = i2
Pentium III = i3
Pentium 4 = i4
Yonah (Core) = i5
Core2 = i6
Nehalem = i7

You know people are gonna make fun of it over and over and over and over and over again. What a mistake if they keep it.

Hmn, got me wondering too. There are 7 letters in "Nehalem", but from a marketing standpoint, that doesn't make any sense either

Secret branding agreement?
Hum, as far as I know, only the number 4 is considered unlucky in eastern Asia...
