As I read on other news sites comments (dailytech), LCD monitors with this resolution are already available, namely:
-IBM T220/T221 (seems discontinued)
-Viewsonic VP2290b

AND, the viewsonic seems to be at half the price.
IBM T221 did it first and at the same price ~ 10 years ago. Saw TigerDirect selling them a few year ago for $800.00 online and actually saw a open box T221 being sold for $400.00. This was about 2-3 years ago. I believe the The Inq actually did a review for the IBM T221?
Old news. IBM had a monitor with the same resolution and physical size almost 6.5 years ago. Interestingly the launch price was also $18,000--dropped to $8400 a mere 9 months after that.

Perhaps this will have some improvements, such as refresh rate (using 4 DVI connectors yielded under 60 Hz), but the price is absolutely absurd, given that IBM offered it at less than half the cost more than 5.5 years ago.

Check it out yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T221
Does that acronym really expand to "Wide Quad Ultra Extreme Graphics Adaptor"? That's even worse than CPUs...

Is this at all different from the IBM T221 that was available many years ago?:
