Nature's solutions have a certain elegance, if you can't find a partner to have offspring in the vastness of the ocean you simply clone yourself and keep swimming until you do.

Sounds like a good vehicle to build some science fiction stories around too.

Parthenogenesis: No jaw dropping stuff

Parthenogenesis, as this type of reproduction is known, occurs when an egg cell is triggered to develop as an embryo without the addition of any genetic material from a male sperm cell.
