Hegemon:

You're wrong. If it happens in Bangladesh, it's Bangladeshi. If it happens in West Bengal, it's Bengali. Complicated, I know.

Radiologists work both hemispheres these days. There isn't always one staffed in the ER at night, so they outsource them to a country where it's daylight and get them read by a professional. So it's not necessarily doctors Googling to kill time.

Easy

Dig down far enough with a shovel, wrap a decent steel cable around internet connection, secure cable to a light truck or tractor, drive off....

You didn't honestly think they would use a pair of scissors?

If they have enough money, and want to make a proper job of it, small shaped charges will do faster and leave less trace.

Communication disruption

And while youre being completely stupid about the topic "Damage" consider the people effected who may have needed to make emergency calls for an ambulance, expectant mothers, sick children etc.
Doctors using the net for consulting and imagery.

Terrorism is just plain stupid ... it effects ordinary people.

People who damage essential services should be "reformatted" ... preferably low level.

end rant

WTF

Wasn't the internet designed to reroute itself in the event of nuclear catastrophe? How come chopping a few wires takes out a whole country?

Bangladeshi probe?

The word you are looking for is 'Bengali', not 'Bangladeshi'.

If your doctor needs to Google in the middle of surgery, you need a better doctor.

how?

Put those cables in a metal pipe and bury them. Thats one of the first things they teach you about physically securing a network. Good way to shield the cables from the elements as well.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
