Quality & Effiency Go So Far.

Rey of Nerd: Heres reason, in Klingon: Once Process gets so Effienct & quality so clean Price skyrockets with sales, Workers get Big Cut, yet process Machines can Move to Dumbieland & work for nuthing. This is Due to Limited Supply of Money fighting over Quality as fast as its made.

So they get more with less is one fix Here, yet ruins local economy, as NO new input of Monies is forthcoming. Thats Key: More New Monies.

Well its Over Value thing, so Cut Euro BAck, Double Number of Euros on Paper, NOT Crimp Worker. That way production increases where production was developed in first place.

However, euro didn't do that, it took Short Sighted Way & left whole mess to Low Cost Forgieners, thinking had DEAL. When Actualaries Should have just PRINTED Twice as Many Euros to cover increased Value & been left in Peasce.Thats piece of eight.

3 core cheaper ?

One interesting aspect of AMD's "true quad core" design is that it's likely that Intel's 2x2 quad core architecture costs less to produce than even AMD's 3-core approach --- though 3-Core is something they had to do to be cost-effective.

The "true quad" approach had a chance as long as it out-performed the 2x2 approach.

In the end, it appears that AMD's approach has lost on all 3 fronts: time-to-market, cost, and performance

Re: Mothballs

Because the Old equipment is no longer cosst-effective and they do not have the money to buy a new one.
So basically, they keeping the cleanroom clean, to be able to use it in the future (in 6months or so).

Remember, half the cost of the fab is the cleanroom thingie, and You usually do not need completely new cleaning equipment when You go to smaller process (this does not hold for the machinery, of course)

Just my 2 pints in to the fire.

Triple core, mothball fabs?

It's not likely that Intel is worried about AMD's triple core chips. Everyone, including Intel, understands that this was done because of their higher than normal failure of their chip process to produce acceptable percentages of four core product.

If anything, Intel is rejoicing over it!

As for mothballing the plant(s), Reynod, you mothball a plant because you don't have enough demand for your product , or you can't produce it properly. That means you have no need to expend the large sums to keep the plant active.

Its' Overvalued Eurodollars Fault!!!

When software co with one product, physics, is worth more than 40 Fabs, somethings wrong. Fabs Cost too many Euros.

Fab 38, Started in 2003 on line for several years took all its guts (equipment) & shipped them to Soviet union. why. They don't have Euros. Forget euros, they won't pay out. No Sale Market. In fact, Euros don't even watch TV, just big city Maps of meaningless proportion. As BIG as Any Euro. hahaha. Gottcha.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
