While it is true there is another similar standard I don't believe that is the principle cause of the controversy.

Accepting a large, poorly reviewed (and unimplemented) standard to a "fast track" process intended to grant ISO recognition to established standards and dismissing National Body concerns about the suitability of this approach was far more significant.

Also of concern to many is the influx of new participants at national body and standards committee levels who uniformly supported this proposed standard in the face of significant defects.
