We've all tried to have a phone ringing when it shouldn't and it usually dosn't take me much time to open it up and pull out the battery if i'm panicking ofc.. But great story xD.

On some phones you can silence the ringer by pressing a key. 

But I guess the kind of chav who'd get a ringtone like that wouldn't bother finding out about such crap... or turning it to silent mode, would he?

For having dealt with the event with the proper attitude and without making a scene of it, I wish to congratulate the judge.

Certainly, additional punishment was not needed, since the "moantone" was clearly audible by all in the court room and, along with the frantic and visible efforts to cut it off make the incident in itself embarrassing enough.

A charge of contempt would have only added insult to injury.

A snide comment from the judge would have really made my day, but it must be quite difficult to think of something witty in such a situation without being insulting at the same time.

No, in the end, the man has ridiculed himself in a solemn environment, and I think the judge was right to estimate that that was enough punishment already.

It shows admirable restraint.
