Great...

...So now if I want to watch practically anything on youtube that isn't an Avril Lavigne music video, I have to connect through an American proxy because some numb nuts decided it was better for me to not see knives and guns?
God damn it, I best cover my monitor in duct tape whilst I'm playing UT as I will go out and kill someone!

Vote...

Why are the english complaining? You get what you vote for. They (as a general group) _chose_ those politicians who pushed the current nanny state. The process took decades. If you don't like it, vote for someone else and stop complaining.

But don't forget that it takes longer to undo bad policy than to enact it, hence be prepared to keep voting differently for a long time to come.

Guns = Lazy Public Relations

Good points in the comments, but guns have been always an easier ploy to take including in various forms of entertainment Chuck Norris or multiple Presidents who come from Texas where the gun is the rule. How does it go Death and Taxes as the result of Guns and Texas?

See no evil, do no evil?

Ah, the road to censorship. Youtube/Google should not enforce this moronic policy, and should instead follow the current laws pertaining to broadcasting.

This will only lead to a few do-gooders trawling Youtube and flooding the censors with requests to block things they deem unsuitable. I hope Youtube takes note of how many times each user reports suspect material, and factors that into their evaluation.

Why not simply implement a PEGI type age rating system for online video content? Oh wait, that wouldn't enable the foothold to further censorship!

Ignorance is Strength

The only State sanctioned violence is War Porn against people unfortunate enough to have things we want.

Very poor

So, Google has agreed to censor youtube for british users. When did this ever seem like a good idea to them?
This is absolutely absurd.

really

@ the other commentators. you would seem to be unaware of current 'trend' culture for youths in britain to 'record' and therefor usually commit to 'record' said crimes so that they may broadcast them on youtube, and then send to relatives and friends in jest and mock. would you prefer a video of someone taking a kicking stayed up? for their friends and family to gather round at teatime and watch repeatedly no doubt.

Censorship

What you can't see can't hurt you? Sounds like ostrich politics to me. Now we'll just have to follow the BBC to get some good weapon intimidation films. Or a Chuck Norris film.

How about movies ?

May be now they should ban every movie that shows gun.... Wait a min.. 99.9% movies have guns ... On the second thought, what about James Bond movies ??

I feel sorry for people with Moronic thinking especially for the people who work for government or as a government.

Do you think the move was justified?
