how fast

Nice to see a high capacity 2.5 inch drive. But are they 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm? What are the rated access times and transfer rates?

you kinda missed a bit...

as engadget reported, this doesnt actually fit in the standard 2.5" spec, its a bit bigger due to and extra platter http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/03/hitachis-5k500-e5k500-hit-the-mythical-500gb-mark-for-laptops/

Pity about the size...

...the last time I could buy a 12.5mm drive it was an IBM 32Gb probably 7 years ago for a Dell Inspiron 7000. Everybody these days has standardised on 9.5mm so this isn't going to retrofit in many machines. I'll wait for Western Digital to do a 2 platter one.

Huh?

Why not just call it a 500 gig drive? You guys [also] trying to appear to be more than you really are?
