80 Core Roadmapped

TEN seems to be question We all seek clues to. I bet its Advancement of NT6 into 80 core. That is due to economies of scale falling off vertically after 8 cores, so going to 80 is 50% booster, it just takes that many.
Then finally with all new instruction set for such monster SEVEN comes marching home, Merely CLUES are all '8 will give, yet thats GOOD.

N/A

Regarding Blue-ray, look at it this way.

With a standard format companies that previously avoided the war would start producing BR players, which creates competition between manufacturers and suppliers.

Just because HD-DVD disappears doesn’t mean there won’t be competition to drive the prices down.

Excellent

Nice list. The only one I disagree with is the SSD. That will wait till 2009 to make it to the mainstream markets.

And as far as rights being slowly stripped away, the major companies have access to all your <a href="http://www.easybackgroundchecks.com">criminal records</a> and companies such as RIAA will like to use that against us.

Blu-Ray

Not sure how removing competition is going to see the prices plummet, all of the large rebates that companys are getting now to put movies out will continue? Or possibly it's just that all of the Blu-Ray players that are out there now will be taken back for much needed upgrades (that cant be received any other way for most of them).... Poor people pay for Rich companys wars, be sure that Blu-Ray is not about to get cheaper.

what about...?

Re: item 2, 6 and maybe 10: what do you think - should Chipzilla actually manage to bring out some Larrabee samples sometime this year? I guess that would make for some nice review activity in the tech hack universe.

Charlie, Charlie

Where to start <G>.

1) Let's face it - they both lost. Between Piracy, the better Choice, and AppleTV, both next gen formats are F*****.

2) This all changes if someone buys Daamit!. Could there be some Sunshine at the end of the tunnel?

3) Yep - this is a concern. Take a look at the Corruption Index on Whackypedia. Scarey.

4) Yep, Microsoft has been re-writing the shoot self in foot program. Lots will stick with XP, others, well we have 2 laptops on Linux, and 2 Mac laptops in this house. And of course all of Microsoft's OEM friends are falling all over themselves with Ubuntu, SUSE, Xandros, and god knows what. Should be interesting.

5) I'm ambivalent on this one. My first HD was a 20 megger attached to a C64.

6) Who cares?

7) Who cares?

8) Yes. Scarey, isn't it?

9) I've used an IPhone. Other phones may offer more features, but an IPhone is easier to use, and when they finally make it to Canada I'm getting one. I'm afraid that RIM is in deep you know what.

10) Actually we already had this. We'll miss you Mike.

Happy New Year.

Ok One More Time

M$ can't force anybody to switch to Vista. One more time, they may stop supporting XP but legally obtained XP licenses are done so in perpetuity. That means you are free to use the legally obtained license for as long as you wish as long as you follow the rules. If you have a computer you're perfectly satisfied with and all the support programs you really and truly want and need, well, you're set forever assuming you can keep the hardware going. Not likely you say. I guess being one with a vested interest in the continued upward spiral of the computer world you'd have to say that. If you don't and IT all bottoms out, you're out of a job. Ahhh the scent of the [suposedly] unbiased. Better to not bite the hand that feeds you right?

And of course whether we want to believe it or not, some people don't even own a computer.

Some people actually use non Windows operating systems.

Oh well......who am I to make waves? Nobody, absolutely nobody.

Apple faithful

Before the Job's Bobs go nuts about item 9 please realize this is in England where they iPhone is priced crazy. Its not just that they don't like apple products, its just that for the price they want you can get 2 of the other ones that really work better on their 3g networks.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
