I don't get it. Everyone seems to think they have to release it next year.

We already know that the BlueRay version is in the works.

Why can't they release it this year, in 2008???

Say, around 1 month before Thanxgiving.

Think about what all the talking heads will do "oh yeah, this will absolutely kill Sony's PS3, this new slimed (typo, but, damn, I like it) down version that will cost more but it's OK, because it's what our customers want, and you poor bastards who bought the dvd or hddvds, ah well, you didn't buy what the market wanted, too bad. life sucks, then you die."

Why do people listen to what they say not not how they say it?
"While we don't normally comment on rumors like this, we can tell you that we have no plans to release a new console in 2009".

Technically none of the redesigned chipsets are a new console. Sure, he's saying that there won't be a new console... i.e. Xbox 3... but he's not talking about uses of new chipsets or optical drives or even Xbox 360 SKUs.

He hasn't unconfirmed anything we didn't already know...
There are little boogey men just on the periphery of our senses, constantly plotting against us.

Should we stand still for a time, and quickly turn to spot them, they still manage to evade our detection.

And the fact that they are so eager to avoid detection only proves their nefarious intent!

My point is that you can't argue based on a lack of evidence. Sure microsoft might be hiding plans to spare current sales.

But someone could easily argue that they should be hyping the machine to push for monstrous sales when it does release (given that most people who would wait for such a product wouldn't have bought an xbox anyway).

It wouldn't be a good sales tact to let potential customers know they should wait for a newer model would it!
