A private company wants to splurge on a corpse, and this is important to me how, exactly ?
Why should I care that the board wants to waste millions on the descendants of a board member ?
If I were a shareholder, I'd be on my way with a pitchfork, a gallon of gas and a lighter, but I'm not.
"The cash involved is not small potatoes either. Roberts, whose son now heads the company, sits on the board of directors and is chairman of its executive and finance committee. He was paid more than $1.8 million last year."

1st - that is how "he'll" collect it, sort of like how baby Bush collected the White House from daddy Bush.

2nd - the average American doesn't have time to count to $1.8 million, or know how to multiply big numbers like $1,000 x $1,000. So saying $1.8 million is gobbledegook.

More importantly, shareholders don't get outraged because this is America, buddy.
When corporations rip us off we defend their right to screw us, just as we defend our right to not pay attention to anything. Everyone has the right to do anything they want as long as it doesn't kill someone important.

Does it suck to lose money, sure. But as Americans we lose money everyday, really, because our dollar keeps falling in value, what's up with that?

That is just the price you pay for greatness, I guess. It is a small price to pay when you consider the benefits of being American.

If an American starts to feel bad they can just look into the medicine cabinet for Big Pharma's magic beans, then have a seat on China's finest exports, imbue imported spirits, watch sitcoms on Korean picture boxes, peruse one of many differently labeled consolidated media outlets, practice hand-eye co-ordination on Japanese gaming machines, eat dead animals, or wade through an endless sea of home made pornography... if that isn't enough then we can buy something.

Sometimes people buy a gun and kill other people, or themselves, or both. But, they are usually just the crazy homeless people and nobody likes them. Every great society has them and there is really nothing you can do about them except to simply ignore them.

In spite of corporate greed it is really great being an American. We can do basically whatever we want, except be outraged. You can never be outraged here because... I don't know it just doesn't work. If you are white you'll get tasered and if you are a minority... well they don't have anything to be outraged about anyway. They've got everything handed to them left and right, with affirmative action and all. But, if you are a minority it is definitely not a good idea to be outraged about anything. I mean, it is un-American anyway so...

Also, you can't really teach children about evolution, maintain fundamental beliefs, vote, read an independent press, expect free air or water, build anything sustainable (goes against capitalism... a big no, no), or really do anything else remotely productive.

There is a reason for that though and it is called progress. America has evolved past the point of needing evolution or free speech or whatever it is that the founding fathers intended. All of those things, you know whatever is in the constitution, those are things that the rest of the world still needs so that they can catch up with where we are.

You see, we are 'consumers.'
Con - sumers... the word is Latin for "with" suming.
Consumer means the opposite of constructor, which is Latin for "with" structing.

Constructing is hard and, really, we are so advanced that we're past that point. America has already constructed everything it needs and, now other countries construct for us as a favor, kind of like a little brother/big brother type of thing, but mostly it is because we killed the Nazis.

After we killed the Nazis the world was so greatful that it basically said to us "America, you are so great, and you saved the world from Hitler. You don't have to construct things anymore, just consume them."

Consuming is our prize for winning WWII. It is sort of like destructing, only better, and not bad like destructing is. Destructing is what the Nazis did, we don't do that.

Anyway, the point is that as an American, assuming we aren't a crazy homeless person and didn't kill anyone the night before, we wake up in the morning refreshed and completely unaware of the previous days events. It's like being born again, like Jesus probably felt after he died.

Do I feel sorry for the rest of the people in the world?

Sure I do, but not really. I mean I feel sorry for everyone who lives outside the U.S.A. because, you know, they're still eating nuts and berries, or walking, or whatever it is that they people do in the jungle.

I'm driving around in my PT cruiser. I don't even have to get out of my car to eat. Can you imagine living in a world where you have to catch your own dinner, or grow it? Or, if you had to walk. People from outside the U.S.A couldn't handle this life. They'd just be blown away by how great things are here.
Forget it.

But, we deserve to be here, really, and it's not easy to be an American. I don't think a lot of people would want to be American if they knew what it takes to stay at the top. It is not easy.

It takes a lot of hard work and, well... not hard work like building something, but a lot of determination... like being great at Tekken does. Being great at Tekken is not easy. It is a lot easier to be great at Street Fighter. Tekken is for men.
America is for men.

Person just about to snuff it: "Jeez - if I went to work looking like that I'd be sent home to wash and change"

Grime Reaper: "Yeah - sorry, I was working on the car and lost track of the time"
You know, I used to work for Comcast, and I can tell you this, Roberts the founder has his Son running the company. If the money is going to his beneficiaries it's just a way for his son to make more money.
"founder Ralph Roberts"
"Roberts, whose son now heads the company"

Seems clear then eh, dad is looking after his wife and kids via the company he founded, nothing strange going on there in that sense, although some sort of life-bonus package might make more sense I'm guessing this is how it can be done legally and fiscally sound.

Well roberts son will obviously benefit. It unlikely that his father has left him out of his will.

Well, that explains where the Jan 2008 rate increase is going.
