It's a mistake

"SuSE 10.1?? Only two versions out of date--the current release is 10.3"

10.1 is not only outdated, but it was also real crappy.

What is meant is SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 Service pack 1. (SLED). 

It's still pretty old, but the newest release of that particular product, and supported for long to come.

Linux Thinkpads

Sorry, this is just the second generation thinkpad to get the SuSE preload nod from Lenovo. The first was the T60p, which had FireGL graphics.
