Why is this surprising? Does anyone even care anymore what the lyrics are? You've had the younger generations listening to (and for the most part - young WHITE males purchasing) ghetto-gangland-murder-everyone-n-beat-up-on-yo-bitches ever since the early '80s. The fact that it can now just be downloaded instantly (another sign of the times - quick n' easy superfly fast gratification) without even an album cover...it's ridiculous. It may be argued that people are getting dumber and not smarter, but one things for certain...they're definitely getting lazier - kids today have no reason to excel AT ANYTHING including intellect because they can just push a button and feel good.

Remember those lovely websites where music was played to wonderful background image & lyrics plus tablature written below? Gone with Millenium.

NoBody cares what lyrics are, although if its simply enough, they readly adopt better words into Life, New feelings for Simple Reading.

Honestly, most of the music on the radio today has terrible lyrics, just like pop music from just about every other decade. That includes Whitney Houston and Hendrix.

Many of the purchased mp3 albums comes with a digital booklet in pdf format. Furthermore the mp3 ID tag contains a field for the lyrics. Not all but some songs come with this field already populated. If not you can just copy the lyrics you find online there and then read them on your player while listening to the song. 

By the way not all CD booklets have lyrics either. And also CDs are digital too, therefore "digital music fans don't know lyrics" title and the following comments are quite pointless in so many levels.

While no doubt those very lyrics have been misheard many times, perhaps it has something to do with the audio quality of so many mp3s...or rather the lack thereof, when played through earbuds.

Lyrics are readily available online, if kids can't be bothered to look em up what are you going do?, use a cattle prod to encourage them? Hmmmm now there's a way we could meet educational targets.

Reminds me of a friend that taught school in Bali in the late 80's. Europe's 'The Final Countdown' was the hit. The locals would play it at the clubs and everyone thought the lyrics were 'The Fire Downtown'. 

Probably, with the kids, today, more of a lack of anything educational. Has anyone taken a look at the spelling used in the comments under any video on youtube? It's so sad that that's considered acceptable.
