look at the size of that cooler!, really VIA you own3 Intel, hopefully I will be able to get something like the EEE but with such a CPU in it(and hopefully a fairly well GPU)

1-0 for the underdog
When I saw that a new via chip had been introduced I went to van's hardware to check if he had said anything about it. What happened to that guy anyway?
count me in.

I haven't seen much positive TDP progress in a while from Intel and AMD, but still, it's on the news more and that's good.

I hope in 2 years most CPUs would automatically switch to passive cooling when not running games/3D/video encoding.
Nice coverage and article, nice VIA chip too :)
Thinking about the increase of size,
for which you say : "This may sound like a massive bit of bloat,..." i did some picturing. Since the packaging is square a doubling means cut it in 4
stripes and attach each of
them at each of its (the squeare's) sides. What you got? A squeare expanded a bit on each side, Not that bloated i think :-)

Cheers
Score one for the underdog! Taken on the face of this article, this is quite exciting news...although whether or not Via can execute a significant market-taking program is highly questionable.

However...the one thing I have been thinking is that Nvidia should buy Via. Before this article, I kept thinking "nah, Via has CPU stuff, but it's all low-end embedded stuff. Won't help them." But now...
Always good to see more competition.

Competition is the key in this game. I doubt we'll see this in any $200 desktops anytime soon, but it would be nice...
