"I can't see what this little firm could give them that the maker of the second-best raytracing engine out their couldn't" -- a patent. Google the principles and you can dig up the details. Anyone heard any details on how much the company sold for?
didn't they buy Mental Images a couple of years ago?
I can't see what this little firm could give them that the maker of the second-best raytracing engine out ther coudn't (the best one being pixar's renderman, I believe)
Rayscale is a very recent spinoff of the Univ of Utah -- no where near 10 years old. Some of the underlying technology and algorithms they use may be ten years old (Parker's real-time ray tracing work is probably that old), but the company is not.
latest News. Nvidia gave demonstration of Photoshop Latest on nvidias Next Gen Gpu yesterday & improvements make very large 2 gb images childs play.3dAo.k. YEAH.

Heres another for Nvidia:high-end GPU R870 in the first half of 2009.

R870 will also use TSMC 40nm technology the same with RC740 but it will build in 2000SP
thats also up to 8X improvement.

Lastly on Todays Extras, involving FABS. Intel plans FAB 63 for Dall, people republic of & hired Full Dakotian Masters to Plan landscaping. Also found some shoeless creeps to build insides to Religious standards.

Well raytracing is basically how the light behaves in the real life, so it's old indeed. Old than anything else maybe except by Drashek's need to get his facts straight.

If you want a life-like portrayal of a 3D scene, moving or not, raytracing is not only the way to go, it's the ideal and absolutely best way. Ideally it does what the universe does, what could be better?

But we don't just have the CPU power for this, so for now we rely on thousands of cheap, confusing and intertwined methods to simulate 3D scenes that hardly look real.

Ray tracing is OLD. Seperating image into sections by analyzing contrast of image & making rays along contrast edges. Its more advanced photoshop or very high qual video editor program. Putting ray tracing into ordinary game card has always failed in games themselves. Cards just too fast, with little constructive purpose in such fast enviorment to form useful change from ray tracing, as ray tracing is arbitary & crosses over object boundries indiscrimately .
yet it exists.

My Advice: Sell Collen Jens.on or BUY Fab.

Maybe it looks good in motion, but the static demo images on the site look like renders from ancient history.

Methinks someone is trying to outflank Intel in the coming ray-traced graphics revolution. Save time on research - buy a company!
