I live in Bulgaria (in EU for 1 year now) and our government just accepted a law which is giving the police direct interface to our ISPs' servers and recoding the IP addresses. It also obligates our ISPs to record and keep all kind of personal information including visited pages and chat history. How is that compatible with the European data privacy regulators?!
"According to AP, the Old World, the EU has a few rules that someone must consent to their data being collected and give individuals the right to object or verify their information apply to search engines."

Doesn't that kind of logic boil down to what we get with EULAs at the moment?

Basically you'll be given an ultimatum: Agree to have your data mined or no service.

I'm presuming that the NintendoVIP website's tracking of user's actions and the related ultimatum of "lose your stars if you don't agree to let us track you" is just one example of these laws being implemented...

Which basically sucks...
