When AMD first talked about splitting, I couldn't fathom how they planned to pull in more money in two pieces rather than one. A friend of mine thought that the idea was to make AMD a more attractive target for acquisition.
But this makes a lot more sense. Without the chip fab to run, they have time to do things like this.
Alex, if AMD dies, Intel will abuse of it's monopoly and will charge a premium price for their products, thanks to AMD, we're not using Lousy Pentium 4 processors anymore, Instead of writting juvenile and ignorant comments like that, go away and play with your Lego Blocks. Abraham, it's true that AMD is not in the best shape right now, but right now, it's doing quite a lot of money were the money is, in the midrange market with their HD 38X0 line, even in the AGP market were nVidia left them in the cold, so before posting senseless stuff, do research first!!!
Yeah because Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Samsung etc etc… have never sued each other over patents. I agree maybe AMD is looking for cash.

How does this equate to SCO? It’s over a complex set of patent tech, it’s not anything like the linux kernel. Plus AMD approached Samsung in 06! It’s been two years, it’s not like they didn’t try to work something out.

“but by buying AMD into itself” HELLO ever heard of the USA? The US government wouldn’t allow such a thing especially not now! As far as their concerned protectionism Is paramount above all else.

“Patent troll?” either you’re a Mac user or a moron, one onto the same.
Screw AMD they should die already!! Let’s all buy from the honourable and infallible Intel, IBM, Motorola etc… and the world would be a better place for it! I mean wasn't it great when you could buy a mid ranged processor £500!?!
...for AMD.

If Samsung actually has infringed a patent it may suddenly find it cheaper to settle the matter not by buying itself out of it, but by buying AMD into itself....
Welcome to 2008 when the lawyers and corporations have become so mad with power they will sue at the drop of a hat.

Why not sue me for making a comment on the internet?

Please reread Alex's comment again, slowly, and try to understand what he's trying to get at.

Patent troll! They might make more money that way than they do making chips ... badly.

Looks like Hector is turning AMD into another SCO. Though I don't see where they are getting the money to actually sue anyone.
