Battlefield 3 gets its first expansion pack
GAMES DEVELOPER Electronic Arts (EA) has released the first expansion pack for Battlefield 3.
The expansion pack is called Back to Karkand and is available to download now on the Playstation 3. Battlefield gamers on the Xbox 360 and PC will have to wait until 13 December to get the pack.
"Back to Karkand is another way for us to say thanks to our fans and show our continued support for the game," said Patrick Soderlund, EVP at EA. "The launch of Battlefield 3 was only the beginning as we vow to keep the game alive with additional content and gameplay improvements in the months ahead. We're excited to recreate and share some new Battlefield moments on these beloved maps that only Battlefield games can provide."
The release includes four remastered maps from previous Battlefield titles using the Frostbite 2 engine. The maps are Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula.
As well as the maps EA has thrown in three new vehicles, 10 weapons, five dog tags and five achievements or trophies depending what you're using to play the game. There's also an "added layer of persistence where players complete assignments to unlock items and earn rewards".
Making a return from Battlefield 2 is the Conquest Assault mode, which involves teams fighting for control of points across a map. Battlefield 3 is EA's fastest selling game in history and sold five million copies in its first week.
Players who pre-ordered the game or bought the limited edition will be able to download Back to Karkand for free, otherwise it will cost £11.99. µ

New maps r up!
Pre ordered BF3, have code, entered code, says map pack downloaded, but still says DLC not downloaded. Whats the trick or is there a problem?
When I try and download the pack it crashes the ps3. Anyone had this problem and did you managed to solve it?
I ready to tear y'all up but why the heck can't I download it yet?
I'm downloading the PC patch as of 12pm EST. It's 3.9 GB so it's going to take a while to download.
PS3 is getting the update early because Sony has paid EA/Dice for exclusive 1 week early release... It says so right on the Battlefield site.
stop cryi9ng about your pc not getting the dlc first... heres some other news you might not know xbox 360 gets the first 3 skyrim dlcs 30 days early :) just live with it, its only a week n a bit... calm down.

Woke up bright and early to download the PS3 Version and it is still not up yet???
I have a ps3 and i live in Denver colorado. Still unable to to download the new maps,,and I have the limited edition and have the passcode,,WHATS THE DEAL FOLKS????

I do understand that someone can get exclusive ps3 vs xbox. This has been happening for a long time. But this doesnt mean they should screw us PC gamers over with their useless war. We dont care who u give it to first. Include us automaticaly with it. microsoft or Sony pay EA. But there are 1000 companies making PCs so WTF. Who can pay for our exclusives?
I agree 100%. The lead platform is PC. Really surprised that PS3 is getting first hand on this expansion pack.
Its still unavailable on ps3
BF3 is an amazing game but I am very unhappy the PS3 gets the exclusive first access to the expansion pack as this game is built for the PC with consoles getting only light versions because that's all the consoles can handle, and lets not forget the maps in this expansion pack are from BF2 which was never available on anything other than the PC so again I am displeased it didn't come to PC first.
