Playing CoD MW3 early could get you banned from Xbox Live

Even a legitimate copy

BE WARNED that if you have managed to get hold of a copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 you could be banned from Xbox Live by playing early.

The game is due out next Tuesday but it appears that copies have been on sale early at Kmart, according to Joystiq. Even if you've bought the disc legitimately, trying to play the game early could get you banned from Xbox Live.

Stephen Toulouse, director of policy and enforcement at Xbox Live tweeted, "For those asking about MW3 pre-release play: If your copy is legit and obtained legitly, have fun. It's a great game."

So it all seemed fine, but then Toulouse tweeted a few hours later, "clarification: dblchk'd with Activision. Mw3 pre-release play not authorized. So pls be patient. Playing early may impact your account!"

If you have managed to get a copy, then you might want to think twice before placing the disc into your Xbox 360 before next Tuesday. µ

Hmm.

I must confess I haven't yet played any of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare titles bar a brief flirtation with the demo of MW2. Can anyone tell me what I am missing apart from being slagged off by pre-pubescent American brats?

Or...

you can get a pirated version and not worry about anything. The way I see this, it's another shining example of paid customers being treated like dirt and another shining example of daft customers taking it laying down.

Not a good idea

They should post a warning IN GAME once you connect to their servers (say at the title screen of MP, for instance), not by Tweeting it.

A simple "If you got an early copy and aren't part of a dev team, playing this game could effect your XBL account"

The number of people who have a Twitter is low and the number of people who follow... whatever that guys name is... is even lower.

If I got a legit copy and took it home, the first thing I would do is fire it up. Then if I got banned because I don't have a Twitter and/or don't follow what's his name that nobody knows?? I'd be pretty pissed off.

This is kind of a BS move on XB's AND Activisions part.
