SOFTWARE OUTFIT Microsoft is working on the Xbox Next, which could tip up in 2013.
There are several projects already on going for the next generation of the Xbox console. Microsoft is working with industry partners to deliver the console in 2013, according to Develop.
Its sources, including processor manufacturers and middleware firms, say that they expect the console to be unveiled at the E3 gaming conference in 2013. However, an early 2014 launch is still a possibility.
We expect that the next generation Xbox will be compatible with current Xbox 360 titles.
Developer Lionhead Studios is apparently making an Xbox Next version of its Fable series. Epic Games' Unreal Engine will probably be ready in time for the Xbox Next and Electronic Arts supposedly already has Xbox Next console technology.
The Sony Playstation 4 could arrive around the same time as the Xbox Next. µ

An earlier launch in 2014?
Each generation used technology when the scale of the process was half of when it was last, ever since the N64 all the way to the PS3.
the Xbox 360 used 90nm and the PS3 used 65nm at launch.
however, PC technology already on store shelves offers CPUs at 32nm ... and Intel's next chips "ivy bridge" will be 22nm ... so, we missed our Next Generation of consoles already ... PCs already have this technology but it's not being utilized because all software makers have to appeal to the lowest common denominator and unfortunately that's the pathetically slow Xbox360 and PS3.
the Next Gen Consoles will be the Next-Next-Gen consoles ... it should be very exciting. It will be a jump, similar to that of going from SNES to N64. Or like going from PS1 to PS3
I mean the first x-box WAS a PC. The 360 moved over to different architecture but a rose is still a rose by any other name.
They might as well just mitigate the whole mess of pc drivers- create a separate market and merge the two markets and call it good.
I doubt it will ever happen but a man can dream.

'Xbox Next console technology', yeah it's called a PC and it's already here. Of course they are 'next ready' as it will be using a version of DirectX that is already being used on the PC market. Also it will have an AMD GPU that is also already available.
