Resistance viral game goes global

GAME STUDIO Insomniac has unleashed a real time strategy (RTS) game to promote the forthcoming Resistance 3.

The Burbank, California, based game software developer has declared war on more constructive uses of your time with the release of Global Resistance, which it deployed onto the web today.

The free-to-play RTS might incorporate the same imagery and struggle as the flagging Resistance series but make no mistake, Global will appeal to those who find themselves more engrossed by Command & Conquer or Football Manager than Call of Duty. A small minority, then.

Signing up using either your Facebook or Playstation Network account you'll enlist as either an unearthly Chimera or a 'not in my backyard' human commander. The goal? To battle tooth and claw with your foe to either rid the planet of the alien invading or quash the human uprising and declare Earth home.

What's the payoff for sacrificing scores of valuable hours you ask? Well, those who intend to buy Resistance 3 and progress far enough through the online campaign will unlock exclusive multiplayer skins, in-game titles and XP boosters for the third Playstation shooter.

During the timed campaigns you'll be able to send troops into key conflict zones, build bomb factories, barracks, intel buildings and bunkers to help with the war effort, engage in random skirmishes with other players and contribute to co-op missions. There are also more menial conflict tasks to take care of like propaganda drops in the struggle for hearts and minds.

We've already dedicated 30 minutes or so to the human campaign and we can tell you it is more than addictive enough for you to miss the deadline of that report. For this reason we've labelled it NSFW.

But be sure to check it out when you get home. µ
