BUNDLES ARE INTERESTING marketing ploys. While oblivious consumers gawp and claw at the 'value for money' prices of these packages, they are blind to one simple truth - the games thrown into said hardware collections are, at best, sub-standard. But it's okay because we get a knocked down or limited edition console.
The latest diamond encrusted bundle of crap is the newly announced Kinect: Star Wars Xbox. The fully licensed and iconic image of an R2D2 skinned Microsoft console has had fanboys flocking to the manufacturer's booth at this year's San Diego Comic Con since its unveiling yesterday.
The loot available in the Star Wars swag bag certainly seems impressive. Not only will gamers be able to get their hands on the gorgeous custom R2-D2 themed console with sound effects - as you open the disc tray it's rumoured to plead: "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. Your're my only hope" - but also a C-3PO inspired controller, white Kinect, a 320GB HD, a wired headset, a Kinect Adventures game and exclusive downloadable content. And all this just to draw the player's attention away from the fact that they'll also be getting what's billed as the most frustrating Kinect experience of the year, Kinect: Star Wars.
At E3 last month Microsoft and Lucasarts had a torrid time trying to convince games journalists that their fumbling Force flop was more than just an exercise in why you should sell your Kinect.
We'll have to wait until Christmas to see if our worst fears will be realised. In the meantime though, this is definitely the Xbox you were looking for.
Despite the coming critical failure of Kinect: Star Wars, the release of the R2-D2 console is sure to add to Microsoft's dominance in the games hardware market. It's been reported that over the last year Xbox 360 unit sales have risen to 13.7 million in the US, bringing in a massive $2.7bn for the company's Entertainment and Devices division.
These figures confirm the Xbox's superior sales over both the Playstation and Nintendo consoles in 12 of the last 13 months. Surely another ropey Kinect experience can't put a dent in those kinds of figures. Thankfully they've got their own little R2 unit to carry them through. µ

I was merely correcting the article which mentioned 13.7 million for US sales. US != world. Just dealing with the facts. Given your childish personal attack it is certainly clear who the dudebro is. Keep up the good fight.

Microsoft shipped 13.7 million 360s worldwide in the 12 months ending June 30. That includes the 360 consoles that they gave away for free with Windows 7 PCs over $699 with their recent promotion.
