Duke Nukem sacks its PR firm

You failed the King, baby
Thu Jun 16 2011, 14:00

TEMPERMENTAL PR FIRM The Redner Group has been fired by games publisher 2K Software over the rather unfortunate tweet it sent out earlier this week.

Someone at the firm tweeted their frustration at the low scores that the latest Duke Nukem game was receiving, but the firm swiftly attempted to distance itself from its employee's opinions.

"Too many went too far with their reviews...we r reviewing who gets games next time and who doesn't based on today's venom," came a tweet from the firm's boss, and then, "I need to state for the record that 2K had nothing to do with this", and then, "Again, I want everyone to know that I was acting on my own. 2K had nothing to do with this. I am so very sorry for what I said."

Apologies are something, but apparently they were not enough for 2K, and with an official tweet it distanced itself from Redner with a long bargepole.

"2K Games does not endorse or condone the comments made by @TheRednerGroup and confirm they no longer represent our products," says a tweet from the firm, and later another, "We maintain a mutually respectful relationships with the press and will continue to do so. We don't condone @TheRednerGroup's actions at all", which seems to cement its postion.

How mutually respectful the relationship is remains to be seen, however. According to Eurogamer, which awarded Duke Nukem Forever a lowly three out of ten score, the bargepole has reached as far as its offices.

"I feel sorry for @TheRednerGroup today. We are blacklisted by @2KGames and it seems to be standard practice," reads a tweet from Tom Bramwell, the operations director at Eurogamer Network. "We'll continue to review 2K games if we think our audience is interested. We had to buy Duke to review it, will for BioShock etc."

The INQUIRER has bought a copy of Duke Nukem Forever itself. It remains firmly sealed in its plastic casing. µ

Lulz

@john, was your post meant to be ironic? surely it was, no one can be that blinkered can they?
@mike you can play whatever the hell you want but a decent game? surely licking windows is more fun than this turgid pos.
* years ago this might have been a half decent sequel but 12 years later it is a sad anachronistic attempt to be controversial. It's not even fun, pointless mysoginism aside it's sad attempt at humour falls flat on anyone with an iq greater than their shoe size. this game does not even deserve to be in the bargain bin, it certainly only graced my hard disk as long as it took to finish the demo. You two can cry foul all you like about this game being PC or not but it isn't worth anyones money.

bad review for a crappy game

Maybe you (three? jux-mike-john) can start writing some game reviews so the world will see the first positive Duke Nukem review. I can't wait

Very true sir.

@Mike It's only going to get worse I'm afraid. Apparently they still have some 'civalizing' left to do to us before we can become enlightened(blinded). ^_-

Hail to the King Baby

I agree with Mike. Too many people now a day’s feel they need to follow the "PC" movement in order to be heard. Those that jump on the band wagon need to get a life. Duke was always an in your face kind of game and it never held back on the punches. If the "PC" crowd wants a "PC" game make one then until then stay off my lawn and let me play what I want to play. I live in the USA for a reason I like my freedom, and I hate it when people try to tell how or what I should be doing. If the US had another revolution the "PC" crowd would stand up and say "but it is wrong to hurt people". That would be fine as they would be the first to go..LOL. Ok bad side track on that but anyway Duke is a classic in your face hardcore male anti-hero, and I like it. Reminds me of the movie Death Race 2000 so many things it that were so not "PC" and that is what makes it funny.

don't blame them

I don't blame the Redner Group for its angry reaction. Duke Nukem Forever is a decent game that has been maligned by politically correct idiots who are offended by its satirical depiction of over the top masculinity.

Apparently men being macho is now considered yucky by the PC police!
