THE BRITISH Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) gave out its game awards last night, and the gloomy noir thriller Heavy Rain walked away with most of the gongs.
The game, a multi-layed murder mystery, was a winner with critics when it was released last year, and this year it is still getting pats on its sodden back.
Heavy Rain won three Bafta awards, however the cherry prizes, Best Game, and Best Game Voted By Players, went to Mass Effect 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops, respectively.
Heavy Rain fittingly took the best story nod as well as prizes for its original music and technical innovation.
Gripping it may be, Heavy Rain is not big on action. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is though, and that game took the Bafta for best action title, while Sid Meiyer's Strategy 5 took the best strategy game glories.
Arm waving, controller free Kinect Sports on the Xbox was awarded the Bafta for best family game, but F1 2010 took the best sports title, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was voted best multi-player game and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Nintendo Wii bounced off with best gameplay.
Best social network game, a new category in the Bafta video games awards, went to Greco-Roman themed My Empire, while the best handheld award went to Cut the Rope. µ

"Sid Meiyer's Strategy 5"?
That should be 'Sid Meier's Civilization 5".
