Gun blaster will launch for Ithings

Augmented alien fun

A GUN PERIPHERAL is going to launch in April that lets you shoot 'em up on Apple's Iphone.

Dubbed the Appgun, the hardware peripheral was spotted at Toy Fair 2011 by Activedad, which posted some pics online.

The idea is to turn games you bought from the Apps Store to play on Iphone into something a little more interactive. Taking notes from Nintendo's Wii peripherals, the plastic gun lets you put your Iphone into the peripheral itself so you can use the hardware to control the accelerometers and watch the action on your display.

The sci-fi looking gun is only cheap and made of plastic so it doesn't have a big feature set to blow you away. It only has a left and right trigger for you to play with and for £20 you aren't going to get force feedback.

But there is a big holster designed hold your Iphone in so it doesn't come flying out when you are gaming, a very important addition given how much an Iphone costs. It's also designed to house Ipods as well as Iphones. Good to know that someone thinks Ipads are too big for something. Oh, and being for Apple kit, it is available in any colour you like, as long as it's white.

The Appgun is shown working with a free augmented reality alien invasion game that can be downloaded from the Apps Store. This uses the Iphone's camera to show a real world view and the aliens are superimposed over the top. µ
