Microsoft shows off Natal

Calls it Kinect
Mon Jun 14 2010, 10:43

SOFTWARE HOUSE Microsoft has announced details of the gear it wants to connect to your Xbox that will make you and your family look like you are taking part in a presentation by Steve Ballmer.

Project Natal, which the Vole has decided to call Kinect, is a hands-free motion control system.

Microsoft said that Kinect will hit shelves before the end of the year and will compete with Sony's PlayStation Move controller and Nintendo's upgraded Wiimotion Plus.

While we know that Kinect will have facial recognition software, the name suggests that Microsoft also might have some other plans for it.

The Vole has released a range of social notworking aware phones called "Kin". This suggests that there might be a social notworking function involved with the controller. It might involve avatar creation or a social notworking site where movement is made by actually walking and gesturing. µ

Geeeze

Can this be any more anti-MS ranting?

1st PS has had a camera for a while, nobody seems to mind that, just like PC's which have (on higher ends) used rudementary facial tracking and recognition software.

2nd In the presentation they SAID they would be using it for things like being able to video conference friends/family so no big shocker there.

3rd ITS OPTIONAL, you can turn it around, unplug it, or not even buy it if you don't want it and the government will not come tearing down your door to take you for reprogramming.

I think that this being part of the gubmints monitoring program is a bit of a stretch. Besides $50 a year for an xbox live account to try and spy on people??? It doesn't cost nearly enough for our government to think its a viable choice. Maybe if they can build a bureau around it and give it a czar or two...

Facial recognition + motion sensing...

Re-read the section in "1984" where Smith is doing mandatory morning exercise. Now imagine M$ wrote the monitoring software.

1984 Finally Got Here

Ok, 1984 is 26 years late but everyone with any common sense knew it was going to happen.
If you want to connect your home and your family and your life to Microsoft and live in denial and a delusional state of utopia by all means be my guest but as for me, I think I will pass.
But it's a game, it's fun, it's for entertainment purposes, right?
Yeah, well just keep drinking you chemicals and believe whatever you want.
