Simon Singh wins net victory

Author wins key free speech case
Thu Apr 01 2010, 16:39

SCIENCE AND MATHS SCRIBE Simon Singh has won a crucial case about meaning and fair comment in relation to scientific discussion.

gavelandscalesSingh had made some comments about chiropractics in an article for the Guardian newspaper, comments that the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) didn't like very much.

Singh said that chiropractic treatment isn't worth the benches it is carried out on, and suggested that the BCA was recommending useless treatments, specifically 'bogus' ones.

According to the group Index on Censorship, Singh's lawyers were able to argue that limiting free speech in this area effectively stifled scientific debate.

Index on Censorship said that there is not a 'jot' of evidence to support claims that treatments are not 'bogus', and was pleased to see a court overturn a ruling that the use of the word implied that the BCA was deliberately endorsing 'questionable' treatments.

"If the BCA continues in its pursuit of suing Simon Singh after such a damning judgment," said Jo Glanville from Index on Censorship, "It may soon be in need of chiropractic treatment itself. The ruling today is a significant victory for the defence of freedom of speech. It's essential that scientists and academics are allowed to criticise and question treatments, medical practice and research".

Stop it. Our sides already hurting, and we aren't planning on visiting any witchdoctors any time soon. µ

Er, all the riders are in teams. Stage racing is a team sport.

WELL, another of Lance's tricks is that he hired a team

who ride ahead with him in their draft, tiring themselves so that he isn't. Non-cyclists won't understand that the 2-3% reduction in effort by drafting a rider in front is crucial when among similar athletes. This practice is technically not illegal, but certainly goes against the premise that every rider is competing; Lance's team aren't expected to win, only to help him "win".

Every time I see a "winner" these days, turns out that they've merely figured a way to cheat, with money as their motive.

BENT IS RECUMBENT

IF YOU 'GET BENT' THAT MEANS YOU RIDE ONE OF THOSE ILLEGAL RECUMBENT BIKES. YOU KNOW THE ONES THAT ARE BANNED FROM TOUR DE FRANTZ BECAUSE THEY WOULD ALWAYS WIN?

IT WILL ALWAYS BE ILLEGAL TO KICK LANTZ PANTZ IN FRANTZ BY BECOMING BENT.

(LANTZ MADE SECRET DEAL WITH CHIROQUACKERS TO 'BEND HIS SPINE' SO HE COULD WIN TOUR DE FRANTZ ABOUT SEVEN-ELEVEN TIMES OR SO - TRUE STORY)

WELL SHOUTED, SHOUTER.

Now I know what's meant by the old phrase, "top of your bent". -- Get the pun: chiropracty, bent?

AWESOME STORY

CHIROQUACKERS ARE A BUNCH OF FAKES SAME LIKE CHINESE "MEDICINE" ESPECIALLY ACUPUNCTURE. THANK THE STARS I AM FINALLY ALLOWED TO MAKE SUCH CRITICAL STATEMENTS USING MY OWN REAL NAME!
SERIOUSLY THE 'CRACK' OF 'CHIROCRACKERS' COMES FROM ENTRAINED NITROGEN IN YOUR JOINT FLUIDS ESCAPING SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET THE BENDS. IT TAKES AWHILE FOR THE NITROGEN TO READSORB INTO THE FLUIDS SO THATS WHY WHEN YOU CRACK YOUR NUCKLES IT TAKES AWHILE BEFORE THEY 'CRACK' AGAIN. CHIROCRACKERY IS NUTHEN BUT CRACKING YOUR JOINTS & YOU GET THE SAME BENEFIT WHETHER THERE IS NITROGEN IN YOUR FLUIDS OR NOT. FOR YOU CHIROCRACK ADHERENTS THIS MEANS, DEMAND ANOTHER ADJUSTMENT GODAMIT! GET TWO ADJUSTMENTS 1 WITH THE CRACK AND 1 WITHOUT THE CRACK, YOU GET DUBBLE THE BENEFIT. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT? INCREASED WEAR ON YOUR JOINTS. OH AND THEY CAN VACCINATE YOU AGAINST DISEASES WITHOUT A PAINFUL SHOT WHAT YOU DIDNT KNOW THAT? THAT'S THE MAIN POINT OF HAVING CHIROQUACKERY! GETTING SUCKED INTO A BUNCH OF BOGUS CLAIMS.
